Default LT-Z50 cdi box is trying to melt

I've been working on an LT-z50.When you turn the key on,the cdi box makes a sizzling noise and then stuff will start running out of a crack that is in the side of the box.It has burn up two cdi boxes this same way.Motor will not start. What do you guys think is causing these cdi boxes to burn up?

you have a short somewhere... check your harness for cuts or exposed wires

Thanks Jacob.I went and ran the whole wiring harness but I cant find anything wrong. Can it possibly be the voltage regulator? If so then how would I test it?I'm not real good at figuring out electrical problems so any suggestions would help

the voltage regulator only functions when the engine is running and putting out power. there has to be some kind of short.

just wondering if you have unplugged something and switched two plugs causing the short... not probable but it could have happened...

just wondering if u got it all figured out? Mine just melted on me after i started to tinker with it, when it lost spark on died on my kids in the yard. Is the CDI plug supposed to have 2 powers when key is on? I pulled CDI off the harness and found it has power in two spots out of the harness.

Took mine in for diagnosis. The shop found nothing wrong and plugged in the new CDI. It started right up and has ran fine ever since. They told me it must've been a defective CDI.
