Help with 84 250 quad runner
#1
Hey everyone, thanks for looking and helping
here is the issue
I have a 84 250 quad runner, bought it years ago to help around the farm, hunting and trapping.
I have been fouling spark plugs really bad, like in an hour of using the thing. I check out the choke cable and it was fried, so I cut it off and " rigged" up a system so it is workable again.
What happens is that when its hot out I'll run it for a while and then it dies out and won't start. If you let it cool down it will start again.
There is very little gas in the new see through filter I installed last year, however when you pull the plug it is black with soot/carbon build up. Clean it off , or put in a new plug and it will start.
The head has a slight oil leak on the outside around the compression release.
I am mechanically inclined as I raced motocross for many years , so I know how to work on the thing.
Don't want to spend any money on a newer one as I take this one through brush and stuff and its not very nice looking, and hate throwing something away that could be useful
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

my 230 sport did similar stuff with fouling plugs and dying after 10 mins of riding and i just put a new top end in cuz the machine is just old but it still had good compression i just did it before anything happened and i had the leak on the compression release to so when i pulled my motor off the frame the exhaust was caked with burnt oil and carbon the head was also with serious carbon build up so i cleaned it all up sprayed my compression release with brake cleaner and silaconed it i have no problems and hasnt leaked at all but cost 100 with me doing all the work including the porting and cleaning, and my friend had a hone i could barrow but you dont have to port it if you dont know how. good luck
