Default 05 LTZ 400 maintenance

I need to do some routine maintenance on my 400. It should just be engine oil right and that takes care of the clutch and gears? Should be ATV/motorcycle oil right?

Anything else I need to address?

Also need to put on rear pads, any big deal there?

Anywhere I can get a free service manual? Funds are very tight

You can use diesel truck oil for it, Wally World has a gallon for $10 -$11.00. Brake pads are fairly easy, if you can do them on a car you will have little problem with a quad.

If he puts diesel truck oil in his Z400(with a wet clutch)He's gonna destroy his clutch and will be majorly pissed at you!I hope you haven't steered many more people wrong with replies like that.

I am not sure where you are getting this information that diesel engine oil will destroy the clutch, but you are wrong. Shell Rotella T is JASO MA certified, this certification is for wet clutch applications. I have personally used Rotella T6 5w-40 synthetic in my Wolverine for years with no clutch problems. Also there are many people out there using diesel engine oils in wet clutch applications with no problem.

that woverine is am old engine and transmission/clutch design you can use regular motor oil. you are talking about a four stroke engine that can rev 9,000 rpm you gotta use quality motorcycl oil

What does the age of the engine and transmission design have to do with anything? A Wolverine, LTZ400, or a 450R all have multiplate wet clutches. That is one of the primary concerns when it comes to selecting an oil. Passenger car oils typically have friction modifiers that can cause slippage in a wet clutch application. Most diesel engine oils do not contain the same friction modifiers that are found in a passenger car oil. Additionally a few diesel engine oils are certified for wet clutch use (JASO MA) such as Shell Rotella T. Also to cover your comment about using diesel engine oil in a high tech engine capable of turning 9000 RPM, I know people who use it in YFZ 450s, TRX 450Rs and Raptor 700s with zero problems.

I use nothing but Rotella in all 3 of my Suzukis.
Go ahead and buy the expensive stuff if you think it's better.
