LT500 Pipe
#1
I have an '87 Lt500 I am thinking about putting an aftermarket pipe on. I did this to my two LT250s and it made a huge difference. My questions are... does it make that much of a difference with the 'zilla? Which types have you guys used?
Also, have any of you guys put a larger carb on? Again, big difference? What size? Thanks!

Thanks so far guys, but what about the carb??
I have a FMF on one of my 250s and have noticed that when the power band hits it really comes on strong...but NO bottom end. Does this happen when you pipe the 500? Now it is all just power with no real power band. I don't want to give up the low end torque that it has now for just top end.

I put a 39mm PWK Keihin on my 'Zilla and it made a bigger difference than the Paul Turner pipe I added first! This, however, was greatly due to the fact that the stock carb's jetting on my quad was WAAAAY off. You don't have to worry about loosing bottom end on the 500. The pipe/carb combo I used gave me alot more top end without sacrificing any noticable bottom. I still have the PSI pipe that this quad came with that I am looking to sell cheap if anyone out there is interested. I don't know how it compares to the pipe I am using now since it was never used with the properly jetted PWK.

IF YOU RIDE THE WOODS MAKE SURE TO GET A PIPE WITH A SPARK ARESTOR. I RUN AN FMF GOLD IN THE WOODS AND A CT OUTLAW PIPE IN THE SAND (THIS PIPE AND SILENCER EXITS IN FRONT OF YOUR LEFT FOOT AND SHOOTS DOWN, NOT GOOD FOR WATER) AS FOR CARBS CALL TUDORS PERFORMANCE IN CORONA CALI. HE TAKES THE 39 AND BORES IT TO A 41 AND THEN HAVE HIM ADD A POWER JET FOR 90 BUCKS THIS TAKES THE HOSE FROM YOUR CARB DRAIN AND LOOPS IT TO A SECONDARY JET THAT HE INSTALLS. WHEN YOU HIT THE TOP END THE VACUM PRESSURE ACTIVATES THIS JET. THE ADVANTAGE TO THIS IS THAT YOU CAN KEEP YOU NEEDLE AND MAIN JET LEANER FOR THROTTLE RESPONSE BUT THEN THE POWER JET KICKS IN TO TAKE CARE OF THE TOP END. THE ONLY TRICKY PART IS TO GET IT SETUP TO IDLE. I SENT HIM MY 39 PWK AND HAD HIM BORE IT AND INSTALL THE POWER JET AND MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE. YOU CAN GET IN TOUCH WITH TUDORS BY CLICKING HIS LINK FROM WWW.QUADZILLATHON.COM HOPE THIS HELPS.

YES THE CT PIPE COME WITH A SILENCER, AND LIKE I SAID IS ISN'T GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT DUNNING OR DRY RACING. YES IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE, I DO SWITCH IT BECAUSE DURING THE WINTER I RIDE IN DUMONT DUNES, AND IN THE SUMMER I RIDE MOSTLY IN PA, EVERY YEAR AFTER I BRING IT BACK FROM CALI I TEAR DOWN MY TOP END AND REPLACE THE PISTON AND RINGS BECAUSE OF HOW HARD SHE GETS RAN IN THE DUNES (I AM CURRENTLY IN THIS PROCESS RIGHT NOW) SO IT TAKES NOTHING TO SWITCH BACK TO THE FMF WHILE I AM DOING THIS.
