QUADZILLA QUESTIONS
#1
I am new to Suzukis because I am a Honda man, the other day i rode a 1990 zilla with 39 carb and an lrd pipe, wow, no honda will keep up with that!! My questions are, how fast would this go, would it beat a raptor in a drag race, and how can you cure a sticky powervalve, any help would be appreciated, it in real nice shape and he wants 2800, is this a good deal, thanks guys!

It would be tough for any bike to keep up with a quadzilla in stock form, let alone a piped and modded 'zilla. $2800 doesn't sound too bad, but its not a steal, either. It would have to be in real good shape. Consider that is less than half the cost of a new hi-perf atv, but it is also 10 years old. If 'zillas are hard to come by in your area, go for it!

Yeah man lots of people will try and tell you the Raptor or DS or whatever will be just as fast, but they AREN'T. Trust me. 2,800 is a real good deal if its in good overall shape, the 1990 QZilla was cured of the little probs that the earlier ones had, if its in good condition, BUY IT!!! and rule your ride area.Oh yeah the sticky power valve, take it off and clean it, its easy and part of the maintenance of the machine which is actually fun to me, just be careful when you clean it, don't scratch it.Good luck!

I have a stock pipe and carb and some porting on my Lt500. I have drag raced a DS (mine) as well as a few Raptors in straight line drags. The 500 is at least as fast as both of these. It seems to me it is a matter of traction, if they hook up they will take the 500 in stock form. If the 500 is piped and has a larger carb I don't think the DS or Raptor has a chance. $2800 seems like an average price. Be sure to check if the swing arm, axle, "A" arm, wheel, bearings and seals are in good shape. These are not that bad to repair but for the price you are paying they should be in great shape. Ask if the engine has been split and what had been done. My LT500 is an 87 and had been really rode a lot. When I got it I replaced the crank manins, seals and lower crank pin, rod, and bearing, as well as the shift forks. These may be just fine but if not you are looking at about 400-600 in parts, and labor to have the crank pressed apart. I did the other labor myself. The frames of the LT500s are fairly strong, but check for stress cracks, easy to fix but a way to get him down on price. Finally, check the upper and lower ball joints, by now these have likely gotten a bit loose and could be used to get a better price. They are about 45.00 each....and a bugger to remove.
Hope this helps!

With Box stock set up on a Zilla, (which is very conservative and noone in their right mine runs it that way) It will do almost 80 MPH. Properly set up for the real world, you could get 85 out of it and you will get there in a hurry! Now you tell me how that compares to the DS or Raptor..

I have heard that the zilla tops out at around 83 mph. In stock form. It will beat all other quads it is by far the meanest quad around. as far as price, thats not a bad deal at all go for it as long as its in good cond. Just be careful the zilla is a BEAST!

Not to insult anyone but my machine in STOCK form never lost to any STOCK machine ever. It will usually beat piped and slightly modded banshee's. I just rebuilt mine and got ct's power package it is scary fast now, not that it wasn't b4 but now there is a whole lot more on top end. My advice is if you ride in the dunes it is a wonderful machine if you trail ride probably not the best machine out there. It just does not like to putt around and tight technical trails are just to slow for it you will foul plugs quite abit. It is not the best handling machine either, no where near the handling manners of a 400ex. However, if you are after a machine that absolutely hauls and gets a lot of looks especially when you blow by someone on there new 7000 dollar machine like it was standing still it is the machine for you. I would never sell mine personally however i would love to add a 250r to the collection for the above mentioned tight technical trails. hope this helps
