Hey, Suzuki guys. I ride a Honda 300 4x4 and have been complaining about my sore back. A friend who owns a King Quad let me try his and I must say I am very impressed with the ride quality. How is this quad in general. I have heard that there may be problems with the transmission because of the many different gears and ranges. Is this true. I might even look at buying one.

Brakes are your biggest concern on a King Quad, and that is only a concern if you are a avid mudder. The drum style brakes on the KQ are one of the worst for sealing out debree/water.If you are not able to perform the mechanical duties on these brakes yourself,it will cost you a bundle to have them cleaned or replaced.Keep out of the severe mud,and your good to go.

Tranny?,
The transmission is lubed by the engine oil.It is important that you use a lighter grade oil in the harsh/cold winter months to ensure faster and easier transmission shifts.Let the ATV warm properly and get the oil warm, and you will have NO problems,
Bill

I think it would really depend on what you intend to use it for. If you are strictly trail riding, I personally would by a Polaris. Their suspension and trail manners are excellent. A friend of mine has a 250 Polaris 4 x 4 and it is both faster and more comfortable than my King Quad.

However, if it is work that you need to do the King wins hands down. The KQ has 3 gear ranges with 5 gears in each range. While almost every 4 x 4 has a super low gear, the KQ has 5 gears in super low range plus reverse in super low. My King Quad is a 95 that I bought used last year and I've used it hard for plowing all winter and have had no problems with the quad at all. It starts in 20 below weather on the first crack and has run very well for me. The only maintenance that I've found to be a little bit of a pain is changing the oil. The right rear wheel must be removed to get decent access to the oil filter.
