Default 2005 ltz400 purchase

Im looking at a 2005 ltz 400 and have a few questions... Ive had few utilitys but never a sport quad so this is kinda new to me..

1. when he went to shift the clutch did engage so he let it out and pulled it in agiain and itworked fine. he said it had done that ever since he has had it which sounded llike bs to me but i took it for a spin and didnt have any isues with it?

2. the engine sounded a little noisy(a slight ticking) but wasnt too bad in fact it sounded like my old popo.. the owner thought the valves might need to be adjusted but from what i have been reading it could also be the cam chain... any thoughts... how much do the new cam chains run?

3. From what i have been reeding the ltz is a fairly dependable machine but is there anything else that i should be looking for that might be a concern..

4. assuming the bike is in average condition whats a good price range for the quad.. no big mods.. new tires and a protaper handlebars.. no nerf bars.

Check around the front sprocket and shifter for cracks, busted case. I trade for a z400 with "a leaking shifter seal". Come to find out, the whole underside of the shifter was busted from a chain coming off. It had been jbwelded but I never got it to stop leaking. They make guards to prevent that so if you do get it, get one

As far as price, it's a buyers market.
I heard of a guy that shopped around and got a brand new off the showroom floor 400EX for 3200.
The Z is a good machine.

also if the ticking goes away after warmed up or it slowly disapeers after being warmed up, it could be piston slap. the reason it may start to disapeer is because of expansion from the piston due to heat
