I just got a 1989 lt230 4 stroke I need help it was rode without a air box or air filter. For how long I don't now. It runs good when I can get it started.. I never owned a quad or a suzuki I was wonder what I meant have to do to make it start with just a couple of kicks? I only way we can get it to fire is tow it or run it down a hill pop the clutch.. Would that be a carb gummed up problem. I was told to it was bored to a 300cc would that make a diffances..

I'd check the compression then valve lash.
Without a air filter the dirt ruins the piston/etc.

 

does it have the airbox and filter now? and it may be something as simple as adjusting the carb once the airbox and filter are correct.

 

without airbox and filter it would be too lean and very hard to start.
