Default 1986 suzuki lt 250R model type?

Hello,

I am new to the boards and I am restoring a 1986 LT 250R and would like to know the difference between the F model or G model. Just so I get the right parts ordered. And if anyone would know where the best place to order parts for this 4 wheeler, as far as to resore it using the oem parts etc. Thanks. John

I googled LT 250R and got a parts fiche for the different models, every part was either F/G or the others H/J/K/L/M/N , so it would seem any F or G part is pretty much the same. The other models even had an exhaust vavle, so maybe those had some kind of variable exhaust valve like a snowmobile for more power. even the exhaust is different on the F/G compared to the other models.

Thanks for the info, I've serched for the answer on google and everything, but I couldnt get a clear answer on the differences other than what you came up with. I thought maybe it was F=1985 and G=1986 ??????.

Iam no 2 stroke expert... But I think it may have to do with the location or style of the reeds. I was told the first year of the zuki r's there was something strange with the reeds that made them seem a kinda gutless compared to other years.

Probably a case reed set up like the older snowmobile engines, while the newer models (H on up ) show an exhaust valve set up in the parts fiche, probably a variable exhaust power valve that picked up the performance.

The F/G is for model year. There was no significant difference between them that I am aware of. For the '87 model year, Suzuki switched from the case reed trail bike motor to an RM style motor with a powervalve. The frame and suspension were all somewhat different as well.
