I just bought an 87 LT500 for 1500 bucks, and was curious as to where the best place would be to find stuff like bushings, bearings, etc. The motor was just rebuilt, but the FMF pipe is rusted(still solid) and was wondering what would be a better(if any) aftermarket pipe, and if there's anything to keep a look-out for on this year. The only thing it needs are two front tires, but they still hold air so I ain't gonna complain!! Oh, and can anyone tell me how much one of these things weigh? Thanks.....

I buy all my Quadzilla stuff straight out of the magazines. Ronnie's Mail Order is a good dependable establishment. I've gotten a lot of stuff from them over the years. I ordered some a-arm bushings from RAD Products, also in the Dirt Wheels mag. They even cut me a deal on the price. Stuff like bearings can be super expensive from the manufacturer. Things like the a-arm bearing are factory specific and can only be purchased from them, at an astronomical price I might add. I wound up getting the brass bushing replacements for the old needle-bearings. They seem to be just as good, but we'll see. Other bearings, like the crank bearings for example, are also expensive from the manufacturer. The way around that is to get the bearing numbers off the old bearing and order a new set from a bearing wholesale distributor like Buffalo Bearing, also found in the ad section of these magazines. Even though there is usually a charge for C.O.D. shipping, I prefer this method to ensure timely delivery. If it don't get there when it's supposed to, order it from somebody else. Who wants to wait around for something on back order or to worry whether or not your credit card was re-credited for a canceled order? Not me, I'd rather ride.

ALTHOUGH I HAVE NEVER HAD A HEAD GASKET BLOW THE 87 HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS. I HAVE OVER SIZED HEAD STUDS INSTALLED AND CHECK THE TORQUE OFTEN. I ALSO RUN A COPPER HEAD GASKET AND A FLEX STEEL BASE GASKET BECAUSE THE ARE REUSABLE AND WILL NOT BLOW OUT. MAKE SURE WHEN YOU ORDER PARTS TO MAKE SURE THEY KNOW IT IS AN 87 BECAUSE THE 87 HAS ONE LESS HEAD STUD THEN THE 88-90 MODELS AND THEY HAVE DIFFERENT A-ARMS. WHEN REPLACING YOUR BEARING ROMAN HAS IT DOWN WITH THE WHOLESALE THING IT IS A COOL WAY TO GET BEARINGS. DON'T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR REAR SHOCK LINKAGE ARM APART AND REPLACE THOSE. YOU MIGHT WANT TO LET YOUR LOCAL DEALER REPLACE THOSE FOR YOU BECAUSE THE CENTER ONE IS A PAIN AND FRAGILE, JUST TAKE THE LINKAGE TO THEM AND THEY WILL PRESS IT FOR A FEW BUCKS. AS FOR 1500 YOU DID GREAT I BOUGHT BOTH OF MINE FOR A GRAND EACH AND THEY BOTH RAN BEFORE I CUSTOMIZED THEM. THINGS LIKE A-ARMS AND PIPE CAN BE POWDERCOAT FOR A CUSTOM LOOK AND IT IS WAY CHEAPER THAT A REPLACEMENT PART. I POWDERCOAT AND CHROME EVERYTHING THAT IS SALVAGABLE.
