Default Suzuki lt230 quad runner issues

Wondering if anybody on here can help me out. I have a 87 quad runner Lt230 that got running about a year ago. Put rings and valves in it and got it cleaned up. tons of fun to ride but it has some problems. first the swing arm has way to much play in it so i put a bearing kit in it. well this did not fix the problem so now is it the swing arm or spacer inside that's wore out? Second it has electric start but that nor the lights or neutral light works at all. Runs perfect with or without the battery hooked up. just wondering what the problem is. Love this little wheeler and just want it the best it can be. Thanks!

Are you sure its the swingarm lose? Did the bearing go in snug, they should fit snug when you install them. It could be the rear axle bearings lose. Which part are you wiggling the back wheels or the actual swingarm?

No its definitely the front swing arm bearings. They seemed to go in snug. Does the actual swing arm wear out? Or the big spacer inside?

The swing arm tube can and will wear out if the chain is not adjusted properly. If the chain is too tight it puts too much stress on that tube and it will oval out. I wish I had taken pictures of mine when I got it, it was destroyed to the point that I bought a new swingarm. I believe justrandy has some pictures of his and how he repaired it.

the tube on swing arm is a weak area on these quads,..most need cutting off an new thicker tube wielded back in its place,an is a good time to add 2-4 inches length to swing arm too,...its shown 2-3 deffernt ways in the big 230 thread...as is most issues with these quads but its alot to read an pick threw!! lt230vault more condensed info an has a good clymer shop manual down load,..help a bunch re wireing mine this last week!!

well i have a good shop so i would be able to do it pretty cheaply. But if the swing arm tube was ovaled out wouldn't the new bearings not slide in? And is there any other replacements that would work off of different wheelers?

with your lights check the fuse box. on mine there was a broke wire but without close inspection you couldn't tell. as for neu/rev lights discount sells them on the shelf 2pk 13.5v 2.3watts 3.99$ instead 56$$ a piece from suzuki
