Default suzuki lt 500 quadzilla help

hi i recently picked up a 87 quadzilla with a bad clutch for cheap, i replaced the clutch and had it running but i noticed it wont shift up good at certain times, the tranny does not slip out of gear or make any noise but the shifter itself just will not move up, also the shift shaft doesnt feel like it has a whole lot of tension as it doesnt snap back fast after moving it up or down, trying to decide if i should split the cases or if it could be something with the shift shaft or shaft spring, i got a great deal so i have alot of room to make repairs, any info is greatly appreciated thanks

Make sure the shift shaft and the shifting star is in the correct position and the shifting spring is installed right. It could have came out of place when you fixed the clutch.

Can you take a picture of it? Does it look bent or anything? It probably isnt worn but if it was no installed correctly it could have bent when you tried to shift it, so then it might need replacing. You could install it correctly and then just try to shift through the gears before you put everything together.

Might need to try asking a guy name Jerry Hall on another site, he knows these LTs really well.
