I've got an 05 700 KQ, 7400 miles. For the past few months whenever I go to wide open throttle, for even short bursts (5-10secs) it will start cutting out, when returning to half throttle or less. It will eventually stall if I let it return to idle. It will stay running at half throttle and above, but it has a terrible miss and puffs black smoke when given a short burst at full throttle. If I let it sit for a few hours it'll run fine again, as long as I stay under 3/4 throttle. Any ideas what it might be? Fuel pump or filter was my thinking but I'm not a mechanic. I need to get this diagnosed and fixed asap because its a little hard to plow snow under half throttle. Thanks for any help!!!

 

I would say the fuel pump. We had a '05 and had to replace our for pretty much the same symptoms

 

I checked the air cleaner tonight, not thinking that would have anything to do with it, but for just general maint. When I took it off the butterfly was dark brown to almost black. What would that indicate?

Ok thanks...Is batt good? have good batt cables connections? Its atv charging? The 700KQ has an issue with the charging system,,,Do an search here in poor charging on KQ700..But if your not having dead batt. issue then maybe another issue...But let just get afew ideal whats going on first...Thanks for your time were trying to help.

Its a 6 month old battery. No issues with starting whatsover.
