I'd stick with a foam filter.
I use a K&N when I TT race but High rpm's are needed then.
If you don't need wild rpm's a foam filter will protect your motor better.
I use a K&N also in my ford van, but not in my 250R for woods/mx.

Wonder why? I have driven cummins diesel trucks all over us and canada pulling trailers and always used K&N with a prefilter and never had a problem. now, those engines do suck some air, too. I plan to use one with a 'sock' style precleaner. think that will be OK? I bought this atv used and it has twin air foam on it and the foam is all rotten and coming apart.just from age, I guess. wonder how much of those little foam pieces got into fuel system? I think K&N will be a big improvement over OEM air filter element.

"why"?
IMO, it's cuz there is 10000000000000000000 more dust particles on dirt roads/trails/tracks/etc. They say the dirt gets pulverized into minute sized particles. They say that no filter can get 100% but foam is best.
I'd bet all the big name motor builders would recommend a foam. Curtis Sparks sold a big foam pre-filter to go over the stock foam.
My daughter was sponsored by velocity filters (K&N style) and of course ran with a outerwears. She went thru some pistons.
Curtis himself told me his opinion on K&N style for off road. To quote "most learn but hey, they buy pistons, not me."..LOL
Maybe call Micky Dunlap (Four Stroke Tech).
Like I mentioned, I run a K&N in my Ford van. It gave me 1mpg. I was impressed.
Ok, I'll let you make your decision. I don't want to seem to harp on the subject.
I think you'll love the KQ.
