Arrow Fuel Petcock -- OFF question

Hi all. Yet another question for my 2000 King Quad LT-F300FY 4x4 .

I noticed the fuel petcock does not seem to have an OFF position. I see the following:

RES
PRI
ON

I'm concerned about transporting and storing the machine. Really...my garage now smells like a gas station.

Again...sorry for the newbie type question...but my King Quad did not come with an Owners Manual. Heck...I haven't been able to find one online either...I must be crazy!

Thanks again,

biz

It is a vacuum actuated fuel valve. It is supposed to only allow fuel to flow when the engine is running. Owners of older models such as the Eiger know that these will fail and wind up filling the crankcase with fuel and create flooding in the carb.

I have replaced mine with a non Vacuum model froma Yamaha Banchee. Fit like it growed there. Blocking off the Vacuum line on the carb finishes the install. Just don't forget to shut the gas off and your fine. It is also a cheap replacement 35.00 vs 130.00.

Some have just added an in-line shut-off valve from the hardware store. That works too.

Just pull your dipstick and take a sniff to smell for gas in the oil.

Thanks!

Yeah...so I had it in the PRI position. Oops! Not where it should be...LOL!

Now I have it in the ON position. So filled the tank with about 1 gallon of fuel...and the fuel petcock is leaking at the tank.

Ordered a replacement and will install. I am hoping I can remove the "stripped" screw that holds it in place. The previous owner never mentioned it leaked...and that it had a stripped screw!!!

Plus...I ordered two new screws while I was at it. The fuel petcock does not come with new screws.

Buy an easy-out it will remove the stripped screw quickly. they azre cheap and can be had at any hardware store. I swapped mine over to a non Vacuum valve, and capped off the vacuum side of the cab. It was a 1/3rd of the cost of the factory on and I elimnated the vacuum problem entirely

Good luck!
