Default 1995 King Quad 300

I just recently purchased a used king quad with about 850 miles on it. I have only put about two miles on it since I purchased it and have already encountered my first problem.

With the key on and the machine in neutral nothing happens when I hit the electric start button. At first I thought it was just a glitch as I bumped the reverse lever and then it worked. However since the first few times nothing seems to get it to even attempt to turn over. I tried the pull start but it will not fire. Everything was working perfectly. I assume it is an electrical problem but I am not sure where to start.

I had a 1996 quad runner and with about 500 miles on it we had to replace (not sure what the part is called) but it was some kind of internal switch that went from the reverse lever into the transmission (essentially from what I can remember is that this would not allow the atv to go back into neutral as the switch was bad. It was a 2 minute fix minus the hour of removing all of the fenders and everything else to get access to it.

Any ideas? TIA

Is the green light on when it won't start? Sometimes my reverse red light won't come on in reverse, so there could be some switches inside that are ify.

You should do the "start in gear mod" Suzuki King Quad 300 - Start-In-Gear Mod » QUADCRAZY ATV Forums then the lights would be moot.

Yes the green neutral light is on. I am able to pull the reverse lever into reverse and that light will also come on. Could it be a problem with the starter coil?

I guess it could be the starter coil just as easy as anything else. Check it out.

How do I test a starter coil? Should it start with the pull start if the coil is bad?

Starter coil has nothing to do with the pull start. You can test it with an ohm meter or just listening to it as you push the button. It should click.

No click, no nothing when I hit the electric start button. Nothing happens when I use the pull start either.

What about the kill switch? If we are talking the same switch (on the left handle bar) it does nothing off, and nothing different happens in the Run position....

If the kill switch isn't making contact, the starter won't turn and the engine won't run. You could have a lose wire somewhere or a bad ground. Check the link I posted for a wire diagram and start looking at what it could be. I'm just making stabs in the dark. Based off what I know, I can't say its anything with any degree of confidence.
