Default ltz internal mods

hey everyone
i have an 03 z that will be due for a top end at the end of this season most likely and im tryin 2 decide what to do. i want more power but i still want something reliable. i like the fact of being able to walk out to my barn, turn the key, hit the button and go. not have to worry about anything. not having it finicky at all. just starts everytime and go. i was thinking about a hot cam and a wiesco piston. whats everyones take on that any other ideas, o and i want to run pump gas. i run premium now.

on a side note. on my gas toggle or whatever its called. theres three settings on,pre, and reserve. whats the pre. is that like the premium switch on the key of the polaris snowmobiles that advances the spark and adds a minute amount of power or what.

thanks for your time and responces
paul

Well, you can bump the compression up from stock(11:1) just a little and stay on pump gas. Since you are redoing the top end, I would recommend doing a big bore kit. The key is, don't go the budget route. Look to a builder that is providing quality components with a top notch piston. It is best to get cam, porting, and carb advice from the builder vs trying to build it piecemeal.

If you don't want to do a big bore kit then I would recommend cams, valve and spring upgrade, Fcr Carb, Drz-e single layer base gasket to raise compression a little, do intake mods or get a 400ex intake boot,.

If you decide to get a higher compression piston keep in mind to stay at 12.5 to 1 compression ratio or below to run premium gas 91/93 octane. Anything over 12.5 to 1 people like to run race gas or mix.

A stock piston and single layer base gasket will work no problems together and keep you around 12.2 to 1 compression ratio. Stock compression with the 3 layer gasket is 11.3 to 1, add the single layer gasket in the equation and its around 12.2.
