Default Lt80 Fuel Tank/Petcock Problem

Hello, I am new to the forum and new to the atv world. I bought a 2000 lt80 that had been sitting a while. I read a few things on here and tried to get her running. I pulled carb/cleaned. The petcock wasn't releasing fuel no matter what setting it was on so I bought that banshee petcock I read about. Here is my problem: In trying to pull the petcock off the tank I could not get the rear bolt to come out. I tried wedging and ratching but it wouldn't drop at all. I ended up prying that brass insert from inside tank out. Uh oh...now what? Do I need to buy a new tank? If so, is there anywhere I can find one cheaper? Any help is greatly appreciated!

You could try re-fitting the insert with some epoxy glue round it to hold it in place. If that doesn’t work, LT80s were made for a long time so there should be quite a few being broken for spares, as tanks are an item rarely damaged they should be cheap and plentiful from breakers.

Thanks so much for the reply! Should I be comfortable with expoxy glue holding/sealing this fitting into the tank? It tore that hole up pretty good coming out so there will be a lot of epoxy to fill it. I haven't tinkered with an atv of motocycle before so I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. If I was riding it, no worries but the kids will be. Sometimes I would like to light those lil suckers up but not that way....

Epoxy seems petrol (gas) proof, I’m fairly sure Briggs & Stratton used it to seal their metal fuel tanks. How well it sticks to the type of plastic used on Suzuki tanks, I don’t know. If you don’t feel confident with epoxy, go for a used tank.
