Adjust rear shock preload - LTZ 400

Adjust rear shock preload - LTZ 400
How can I adjust the pre load on the rear shock on my LTZ 400? I have the special tool but there is no room to adjust the collars. Do I need to remove the rear shock in order to adjust this?
