Chuck,
thats a great theory, but what is going to happen in real life is,

On the STEEPER HILLS in a higher range 4x4 lock, the little 280cc engine will not develope enough power to the wheels.I gaureentee this is what you'll find.Been there, tried that,
Bill

Thanks, Bill... I'm sure you believe what you're saying, that's it.

The Cat does have four wheel lock. You just need to adjust the shifter.

My apoligies Ecorman1; I read the name to fast. Yes Cat does have diff lock you just have to adjust for it. It is after all a 300 KQuad in wolf's clothing.

Bill's right on long sand hills POWER & wheel speed IS EVERTHING, however my 300 will do things 500's won't due to light weight, better handleing, & true 4WD.

sxr6,
I had a 1999 Sportsman 500cc 4x4.I agree with you on the weight issue. The Sportsman is heavy, thats the biggest reason I got rid of it.

Even though the Xplorer 400cc 4x4 I now have does not have IRS,I still like it more than my Sportsman. It is 588lbs compared to the Sportsmans 697lbs.It makes wheel speed ALOT quicker than any other utility 4x4 currently on the market because it is a oil injected 2-stroke.Polaris 4x4 ATVs are true 4x4 also.I dont understand why Suzuki does not offer a bigger engine in the KQ for?I think they would sell pretty good.

I don't want to contribute to an argument, but having both of them. I know what the King will and will not do. My diff. is modified to work in all ranges, and it has a performance kit on it..
We have hills here, that I can get a running start at, say 20 mph. and she is dying by the time I get to the top.. It is an uncomfortable feeling, which I personaly don't care for.
I climb the same hills with the 500ho, except that I can pull up to the bottom of hill, stop, and then gun it in 2wd/hi and I have to let off the throttle at the top to keep her from going airborne..... That's what I'm talking about...

The Sportsman is heavy, but it will stand off camber hills, at a much steeper degree than the Suzuki. I don't know what you guys are doing that you think we can't do, but I believe, we could surprise you with these heavy tanks... They are very agile, for the weight..
About a month ago, we were riding. We came to a place where we had to cross a steep hill sideways, or go around. Two of us where on 500ho's and one guy on a 94 King.. My buddy on the 500ho, knows no fear.. He gunned it and went across the hill sideways.. I figured, he made, so I should, as I ride an identical machine. I could feel it trying to slide off of the hill, but the power held it on it.. The guy with the King tried it, and he rolled that "light" machine down the embankment, and itto a gulley. It cracked the axle housing and dumped all of the oil, out of the engine.. We had to pull him out of the ravine and back to the truck..
I'm not saying, you can't find something we can't do, but it would be fairly hard...

LOW-GEAR,
I also have owned a KQ before. And I currently am the caretaker for my bro's 97 KQ.

I try and be VERY careful with what I say about the King Quad.I dont want to hurt anyones feelings.I have friends in here that sometimes feel im ''bashing'' their KQs,but in reality, because I owned/rode/serviced them for quite a while,I really do know what the hell im talking about! And its very appearant to me that you do to.

I have also owned the overweight Sportsman, and except for maybe Rock Hopping,I cant think of anything the underpowered KQ can do ANY better than a Sportsman. To reserve friendship/peace,I'll stop at that, but you get my point?
Bill
