Lets stop talking now. all i asked was a simple question and you turned it into a bashing contest. Polaris VS KQ. lets knok it off. do you want me to make a post just for you guys to B**ch at each other? thank you, whoever answered my question. You guys just don't stop do you. geez the last million posts had nothing to do with the question i posted. I'm making a new post titled "Bashing Everything that has wheels" i'll put it in the Yamaha Forum

For the record I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH BILL'S COMPUTER FAILING. My hacking days are mostly over. There is a lot you can do with an IP but I don't do that much anymore.
Yamahagye,
You have to admit it's very entertaining though. Besides I think your question was answered in there somewhere. If you want a racer get something else, if you want a very dependable 4x4 quad that'll probably last you 10+ years it's great. And it you like pink get one.
Ok I'll stop on this one.
Good Luck,
Rob
OK who gave Bill a phone? Someone is supposed to keep that and sharp objects away from him.

Don't think, it's over yet guys... robnhuston, is having as much fun as Bill. And if Bill's Polaris, should break down, I'll pull it back to the camp ground, not Rob. And I'll have to pull Bill, back too! So leave him alone 'til we get back here. Don't wreck the computer while we're gone, please...

Yamahagye,
King Quad has quite adequate power. As you well know it belongs to the 300 class machines and not to the 500 class to which it is so often compared. It has an efficient way of delivering
that power with it's direct drive rear
transaxle.
King Quad has a low center of gravity because of it's downward canted engine placement. That and a wide track for a 300 contribute to good manners in off-camber situations. Having the 5-step shocks adjusted to the softest/lowest setting helps too.
King Quad is as reliable as it gets. I can go 3 months without riding and with a strong battery, partial choke, couple of throttle blips, King Quad starts immediately. Never plagued with problems on the trail. Ride, wash/inspect, put away till next ride.
No constant fixing and tinkering.
Always followed maintenance schedule and owner's manual recommendations.
King Quad is a climbing machine. My favorite climbing spot is a long, steep, heavily wooded trail with ledges. In super-low range 2nd gear, with shocks set soft, you can lean forward, proceed and vary your speed enough to match the trail condition. The fully independent suspension keeps the tires planted to the ground providing the best possible traction. Slow way down for the ledge and hit it squarely, front tire may rise a little at top of ledge, but smooth throttle and all's well. There's no other way to climb such a hill.
King Quad like very few other machines. What other vehicle can you buy bone stock that gives you the gearing options like King Quad? Hi, Low, and Super-low ranges. Outstanding!
The Mercedes Unimog of atvs! King Quad;
2 or 4wd, 15 forward gears, 3 reverse, cable actuated front locker. Mercedes Unimog; 2 or 4wd, Mondo gearing, cable actuated lockers. Both powered by efficient engines, both excellently suspended, both ahead of their time. Want to climb over a big log without dismounting and muscling around a few hundred pounds? Select super-low 1st gear, ease throttle and properly shift weight and you'll get it done. Slow speed descents? Extreme rocks? Short vertical ledges? Super-low 1st.
King Quad's other nice attributes; -smooth running, I noticed a quite obvious difference between it and another popular model.
-compact size maneuvers into places much easier than the behemoths.
-price, great value for a high quality, feature packed machine.

sxr6,
The King Quad rides quite well in my opinion. Another reader posted a few weeks ago that he rode his friends KQ and was impressed with the ride. Do you think he was just imagining things? A rough ride is a non-adjustable single shock, rear swingarm solid axle. That's what rough is. King Quad has one of the best suspensions available.
As for brakes, I've got 1867 miles on my original brakes. Drum brake stopping power is not bad. A lot of surface area where the shoes contact the drums when stopping. When I bought mine in 93, the KQ got the highest marks for stopping power in an atv mag 4wd ute comparison.
Remember, King Quad is the AC300's daddy. The son is spunky, but the father rules the house.

I don't think it rides that bad either. At the Polaris dealer the sp335 I rode seemed to be stiff. It was a pretty flat surface, no bumps. I would think the shocks were set to a softer setting. At a Honda/Suzuki dealer I rode a 99KQ and a 99 Foreman ES 450. I switched out riding each of them a couple times. The dealer had a ditch and some ground that had been dug up with a backhoe. I went over the same bumps minutes apart and I thought the KQ had a smoother ride. This was early in my search so I hadn't really settled on any favorites.
My current KQ does ride rough now because I keep the shocks turned up. On a normal deer feeder check I'll have 150lbs of corn on the back and 100lbs on the front rack. I usually forget to turn them down again when we're just piddling.
I will say a friend has a Kodiak 400 4x4 and on lightly rough ground his is very smooth. Much easier to steer to. On rougher ruts it's not. Once again I believe his shocks are set to a soft position because just standing on the pegs with the brakes locked it will pitch quite a bit.
