i would like to hear anything you have to say about the king quad. does it have enough HP? How does it handle on off-cambers? Is it realiable? How well does it climb? DOES it have good traction? Is first gear in super low range too low for any kind of riding? Any comments or anything else you would like to write down are welcomed. Thankz

Well, YAMAHA GUY! The King Quad's not a racer, under powered, brakes are the arm pit of the machine and there are more comfortable machines to ride. The Dunlops, that come with it, are supposed to make you believe you have tires. Don't take 'em, tell the dealer to install real tires. You know, something with some bite.
That's the bad stuff. The good stuff is:
1.True fourwheel drive in super low. No, you can't drive around the block in this gear. Some kid on a bicycle will run you down.

2. Air cooled, don't have to worry about loosing a coolant hose on the trail.

3. Infinite amount of gears. I have a '99 and I still don't know all the gears.

4. Reliability, hell yes!

5. Four cycle engine.

6. Shaft drive.

7. I'm six foot tall and 210 lbs. It hauls my big butt around fine. What more could you ask...

I JUST BOUGHT MY 2000 KING QUAD NEW IN DEC. BUT I THINK IT IS A GREAT QUAD. I HAVE YET TO HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT AT THIS TIME(I SHOULD HOPE NOT CONSIDERING IT ONLY HAS ABOUT 150 MILES ON IT AT THIS TIME). I DON'T SEEM TO HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES MYSELF, BUT I HAVE HEARD OTHERS COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM NOT WEARING VERY LONG IF YOU RIDE THE MUD ALOT. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN MINE IN ALOT OF MUD YET.. JUST REMEMBER IT IS ONLY A 300 AND WAS BUILT FOR WORK NOT SPEED. ITS NOT A 400EX, BUT I'M 210 AND IT DOES A GOOD JOB WITH ME ON IT. I HAVE PUT A SUPERTRAPP,K&N FILTER AND JET KIT ON MINE TO TRY TO GAIN JUST A LITTLE MORE EDGE WITH MY BUDDIES AND IT DID HELP. IT WAS THE ONLY QUAD ON THE MARKET THAT HAD ALL THE FEATURES THAT I WANTED AND AT A PRICE I WAS WILLING TO PAY.
1)OPTIONAL 2 OR 4WD
2)PULL OR KICK BACKUP STARTER
3)DIFFERENTIAL LOCK AND NOT A LIMITED SLIP TO WEAR OUT
4)MANUAL SHIFT NOT BELT OR ELECTRIC SHIFT
5)AND A LOW RANGE GEAR
I AM USING MY QUAD FOR MOWING,PLOWING,PULLING, AND MOST IMPORTANT PLAYING. I'M SURE THE KING WILL BE AROUND MY PLACE FOR A LONG TIME TO COME.
MY COUSIN WAS TRYING TO GET ME TO BUY A HONDA FOREMAN WHEN I WAS PRICING AROUND FOR MY KING, BUT AFTER RIDING THE FOREMAN AND MINE HE IS CONSIDERING GETTING A KING OF HIS OWN.

Well Yamaha guy; econo man hit her right on the head. You probably can't tell but I'm a Yam myself, except in 4wheelers. I'll probably get bashed but I have a Suz 4X & bought a new 300 Cat last year. The Cat does everything the Suz does except it rides much better & has better brakes. My only complaint where the Suz shines is sidehilling where Cat suspension makes it's centre of gravity higher, thus a little tipier, but I would never trade my suspension in, after a full days ride you could get right back on & due it again.

Ecorman,

The gears are easy,
superlow range - 1,2,3,4,5 and reverse
low range - 1,2,3,4,5 and reverse
high range - 1,2,3,4,5 and reverse

Hope this helps, wouldn't want you to get confused at H-M ride (GRIN)

The King is a good machine. Does it have enough power? No. It will pull anything in the super low gears, but eventually, you will run into that long, steep, hill, that is loose sand or gravel. It doesn't have enough power to develop adequate wheel speed to dig its way to the top.. I used to climb these hills, while saying a prayer that it would make it to the top... Now I have a 500ho, what a difference. It's nice to go up the hill without any worries. The ride of the King is very bad.. I bought mine, and rode it for a long time.. I'd get the crap beat out of me every weekend.. I thought they all rode like that.. The Polaris has showed me, that I was taking a beating for no apparent reason... Suzuki, should work on that.
She is a good machine, but personally, I feel that it is better suited to working or hunting. It is not the machine, to try and chase your buddies through the trails at 30 mph or better.

I agree with Low-Gear.The KQ is a good all purpose ATV,it does many things well.If speed and a great ride is not your major concern, this ATV will be OK.Its when you need the wheel speed for the long/twisty/loose packed hills is when you run into a few problems with wheel speed. If your going to be doing casual trail riding/mudding and the usual farm related duties, the KQ would be fine. Its a great worker too.

Thanks, Eric! Your so darn helpful. I'm gonna enjoy pulling you out of the hole... :0)
We'll use your cable. You can walk through the mud to my quad to hook up and back... Have a nice day... :0)

sxr, the only thing you bashed, was my name. But you also forgot to mention, your Cat, I don't think has four wheel lock...

Everything you guys are saying is true but I've modified my shifter as perscribed by the doctor, Eric Baatz. I can shift into four wheel lock in any gear and keep my wheel speed up. I believe I can go where ever the big dogs go and then some because of low ctr. of gravity. Just a theory now but soon to be tested.
