Painting Plastic
#1
My 86 LT250r plastic really sux!
Some crazy previous owner installed Flourescent Pink on it and then parked it in the sun so it faded to the most feminine light pink imagineable.
I am tired of riding the ugly ducking, what kind of paint is best?
I dont really have the $$ for new plastic.

yeah i would just save up and buy some maier plastic. maier looks like crap compared to stock but i would guess it looks awesome compared to your pink stuff. i saw it on a site for 80 bucks for the yellow front! thats a really good deal. i'll post the site later if i can find it.

Zuki250r,
Try this. Try using regular old wood type paint remover. You can pick up a can at Home Depot for around 5-10 bucks. It's a thick looking liquid that you can wipe on with a towel or something. Keep it off your hands!! This will bubble up the paint and you can wash/scrape it off. You may not like what's underneath but this should remove the top layers or the paint. It shouldn't damage the original plastic. Try it on a small hidden area first.
For paint to really stick to plastic it must have an additive that bonds with the plastic. My guess is this additive was not used and this was just sprayed on from a spray can.
Good Luck,
Rob
