Default 2004 Eiger 400 carb and petcock

I have noticed a lot of threads talking about the vaccume fed carb and petcock system on some of the mid 2000 models of Eiger.
My question is. If there is even the slightest leak around the plastic choke cable nut, ould that cause the vaccme to the petcoxk to fail because the carb is pulling air through that air leak and not the vaccume hose to the petcock?

No, the choke is not sealed in that way, air can enter via the cable itself, the seal is simply to try to keep water out of the choke mechanism.

It is fairly easy to check if the vac tap mechanism is working. Put tap on run, pull fuel pipe off at carb end, and press starter. If fuel starts to run it is working. If fuel runs as soon as pipe is pulled, tap is stuck open, if fuel doesn't run at all, either vac pipe has a leak or tap is stuck shut. Check if it runs on prime but never, ever, leave tap on prime once the carb is full. The tap on an Eiger is well made and can be dismantled if faulty, unlike the LT80 tap which is badly engineered and difficult to strip and rebuild without causing damage.

Ok.
machine shuts off after a few minutes when I turn the petcock to run or on position. So I'm guessing air leak somewhere to not allow sufficient operation of the diaphragm in the petcock. The petcock is new. Albeit an aftermarket petcock, still have the old petcock and finally found a rebuild kit for it. Think ill go that route. . Bik3 has new carb and petcock. Only runs on prime currently.
