I am lookin for a LT250r.I already have a MX trx250r.I am looking for mainly a play bike.I also want to be able to play around on our mx track.I want it to handle well with nice power to.Like my 4-trax only for play. The 4-trax;s are to expensive to get just for play then go modifing them.

The reason I don't use my 4-trax is because it is more of a track only bike. Not a playtoy. It is hard to keep on our track.

I would put a FMF pipe and silencer on the LT.Some different wheels and tires and some shocks.I know the LT's have frame problems. Can they be solved?maybe by gusseting or what?

Thanks

86 trx250r to many mods to list

The LT250R is an awesome quad. i don't know why you don't see much at races. i love mine. i drove a honda once and really didn't think it was that much better. don't get me wrong id get one if i had the chance. mines even an 86 and i guess from what you poeple say it doesn't have the upgraded reeds and such. when i got mine i was gonna gusset it, but it looked to me like it already was. so then i moved on to the swingarm. that was cracked. so i just had that fixed by my friends dad's aluminum welder. now its good as new. what year are you looking for? i really don't like the seats on the 87-92. id switch that over to the 85-86 cause they look a lot nicer. if your planning on gettin a 86, check it over completely. there was alot of things wrong on mine but for only 550 bucks it was well worth it. in my opinion i wouldn't even think of an 85, i hear they have lots of vibration. also if you get and 87-92, parts are so much easier to find. i have pics of mine if you'd like to see them, and a few pic's doing heelclickers,no-footed-can-cans and that kinda stuff. my emails crazymofo_69@hotmail.com.

The frame geometry is wrong on an LT250r, so it doesnt handle as good as a 250R, but I have ridden both, and with the exeption of pure competition racing I think the LT is a better all around quad, it has way more torque the a 250R and it has much better ergonomics. the 87 - 92 are the only one's to get the 85/86 had crappy suspension, it was narrower and the motor was for ****. The 88 92 motor was a little better top end than the 87, due to the 87 bridged intake port. the 91-92 had an improved rear suspension also.

I definetely like the ergonomics of a LT over a TRX. I don't know why you don't see more LT's at tracks either. In this day and age, Hondas at the pro levels aren't really Hondas. Almost nothing is stock on them. Now just take a LT motor and stick it in a pro quad and they would win too.

Some of ya old timers will remember Barry McCarty who up until the early 90's when he stopped racing, was usually always in the top 5 of the GNC pro class on a LT250R. One year he missed first place by one point. He was also very competetive in the Open class on a LT500R. He was proof that Suzuki's could compete. Now we have our good buddy Doug Gust making us proud. I always knew he could come around and see the light

yeah iv really noticed how bad my stock suspension is on my 86. that is why i plan to get a whole new one, which includes, 2+1 a-arms, works dual rates with rezzies and threaded preload, quadstar rear shock , and i already have an extended axle. maybe this will solve the problem. as for the engine i think it kicks! if they say the newer ones are better than they must really scream! mine is so fast and has so much power. its been bored .60, fmf pipe and silencer, and maybe a few other things done. i really love the power in mine though. its awesome. id like to ride a newer one just to get a feel for how they ride.

LBZ i don't think an 85 engine vibrates any more than an 86 one does, with the exception of mine of course. lol

I don't know why you don't see many LT's in the races now days, more pro racers should race them!!!! From what i have heard and seen I think LT 250R's are kickass quads!!!! Just put aftermarket MX suspension with whatever else your goin to do to it and I think they would be great MX Quads!!!! Go for the 88-92 models they had the least problems!!!! I'm thinking about purchasing a 88-92 LT 250R myself pretty soon if I can save up enough cash!!!!

Peace out bros!!!!

If you want to race go with 88-92, they are so much better, the frames are renforced and they are tough. i have race mine quite a few times and have crashed alot, the quad holds together good. The geometry is poor, but the rider will make the difference.

after riding all the diffrerent variations found on the LT the best one for MX is the '91-92. the rear suspension on these is better and the frame has many areas gusseted already. the only weak point is around the footpeg mounts, gusset & reinforce it to prevent cracks/breaks and you should be in great shape.
as for motor, i know for a fact that a piped 88-92 lt motor will hang with some banshees and almost any 250r... treat it well and it will do great.
for mods: i just put on +2 A-arms and a +4 axle, both improved stability considerably; i haven't been able to afford front shocks yet, but will someday. i just had my motor bored .020" over, and haven't got it put back in yet... waiting for parts
