Hey I have the chance to buy a 87 Quadracer for 600$. There is a small crack where the cylender bolts to the case and it needs a piston also. THe rear shock needs to be refiled. Should I get it?
I looking for something to ride like in the winter. Other then that is all there. What do you guys think.

i dunno if i'd pay 600 for it but i know you can fix the crack in the case with some JB weld. the rear shock getting refilled shouldn't be very expensive either as long as thats all it needs. the piston i don't know. it could be expensive. see if you can get him to go down to around 450-500 bucks or less.

Is the crack in the cylinder or the case? If it is the cylinder then you can easily have this TIG welded, I don't recommend JB weld on high pressure area's. You are looking at about 80 bucks to have the rear shock filled with oil and charged with nitrogen. You are also looking at about 120 bucks for the piston kit, and a hone job, it will be more if it needs bored. If I were you I would hand him 500 bucks and take it, if you have the skills and money to fix it. Just don't do a half a$$ job on the repairs they will come back to haunt you. One other point, you will need to inspect, grease and maybe replace all the bearings in the front and rear suspention.

When i bought my quadracer the guy said the rear shock nitro need to be refilled and that was all. I took it to a shop and they said u cant just refill it and they wont do it caus its too danderous to ride. I had to get a $200 rebuild. There is no such thing as just refilling it.

Hey there, is that a 250 or 500? Dont even think about JB welding the cases, if you dont opt to buy a new case, make sure the welder is certified for welding aluminum, I had the cases welded up in my CR250 dirtbike welded a couple years ago (threw a skirt) and the redneck warped my cases, no problems showed up till late in the season, but it sucked air bad, I ended up buyings new cases for $225 a piece. I paid $550 for my beat up 88 QuadRacer 500, smoked piston, and just generally abused, my frame has several rust spots, which turned out to be just surface rust, but if I just re did the top end and kept riding it, the rust would have gotten worse, maybe ruining the frame, so everything is getting repainted, which also gives me an excuse to rip everyting apart to check bearings, but most of mine are fine, although some meatheads just let them disinegrate and ruin everything, I have the same shock problem as you, but the little piece with the nipple on it, well the nipple broke off sometime ago, so i gotta redo the shock anyways and get new plastic, and general odds and ends, but the end result will be a great quad (my first) thats a blast to ride and wont require and wrenching except for maitence. That would probably be the best route unless you need a quick fix for a ride. -Mike

The Cyclender is fine all it needs it to be honed out which I know how to do at work. and I can get a new piston for 100$. The crack is one the case where the Cyclender bolts too like the shiny metal part where the gasket goes. I probally can buy a case at a junk for 75$. The reack shock I proabaslly just have it rebuilt. So what do you think about the weld. The crack is small enough that I could maybe put the gasket on it and it wont leack but I would like to fix it. So again what do you think.
