I have an 85 LT250R, the swingarm cracked and i welded it. Im afraid w/ heavy trailriding and jumping it will crack again. What is the best thing i can do to keep it from breaking. I heard of helilaced but have no idea what that is. I do think a brace may help but not sure how much. Any help will be apreciated. Thanx

The '85 and '86 quadracers had a pitufully designed swingarm. I had one and it busted to pieces everytime it was welded. Don't bother with it. If there are any junkyards around your place look for a good used one, but good luck. Check with East Coast ATV otherwise. If you could afford it I would say to go with a Leager or Roll Design or Lonestar swingarm. I am not sure it they make them for the early models though. Another thing I looked into was purchasing the swingarm, bearing carrier, and entire rear end of an '87-'89 and doing the entire swap. It appeared that it could be done without much trouble. Heliarc welding is just another name for TIG welding. It will make a good strong weld but it wouldn't make up for the poor design of the swingarm. I welded and reinforced and did everything I could think of and it was all just a waste of time. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
