LT250R specs and questions

Does the 250 really only weigh 324#'s? If so good lord, thats a light quad!
I'm really trying to get a new quad (used actually) and the zuki's have always been my favorite, guess I just like yellow. Anyways, at first I was really looking at the 500 because it was wider and longer than the 250 (though I didnt know how much at the time). I thought the travel of the 250 was much lower than I found out (8.7" front and rear from the info I've read) but now I think the 250 may be a better candidate for me. I'm still a newbie (I think I'm pretty good but you know how that is) and I think the extra horsepower (what does the 250 make?) could be a bad thing for a while.
I was also surprised to see that the LT has quite a bit more travel than the TRX250R, and its also wider, longer, more ground clearance, and has a higher fuel capacity (all things that seem very important to me). This quad just may be the one for me!

I had a LT250R before I bought my two Zilla's. Great quad. One place in the manual said it weighed 325 lbs or something like that, and another place said that it weighed considerably more than that. But I'm quite sure it is still lighter than the TRX250R, by just a few lbs. It may have just a little more wheel travel than the Honda but the stock front shocks SUCK! They are also known to break off where the shock body mounts to the frame and caue a nasty wreck. Replace them with Works tripple rates as soon as you get the quad. They will offer an uncomparable ride plus some added saftey. Also I was told that the rear shock wasn't designed to hold up to heavy jumping if you weighed more than 160 lbs. I blew that person off and proceded to then blow my shock out, they were right. I hate when that happend. So basically what I am telling you that a LT is a good quad. A LT with aftermarket suspension is an awesome quad. I'm not saying you can't ride a LT with stock shocks, probably 90% of people who have them do. But they are much better and much safer if you can afford to upgrade to some better ones. Good luck.

yeah the 250's were a great bike. i don't know what the stock suspension is like cuz mine had works dual rates on it when i baught it but i hear stock sucks! it is light though. REALLY light. i coulda throw that thing around all day. you wouldn't beleive what it feels like in the air. i miss it my 400 doesn't even come close to giving me the thrill my old LT did. every1 says i really ripped off the insurance company when my LT got stolen and i got a 400EX for free from them. well their wrong. my lt was everything i wish my 400 could be. don't get me wrong i love my 400 but compared to my 250 its slow and heavy. oh well. get the 250 you won't regret it.

My 1990 LT weighs 352 pounds ready to ride with a full tank of gas. The 250 is anawsomebike, I would suggest tha if you get one, stay away from the 85&86, they have a different motor, and they like to break frames and swingarms. The 1992 has the better suspension.

I've read a bunch of posts and I was looking to get one that was from '87 up. When you guys say the it breaks where the shock connects to you mean the shocks perch or the shock its self?
Is the frame of the '85-86 different? I thought only the powerplant was different? If you have any more info on something throw it in here, I'm trying to become an educated buyer

The shock itself breaks. The part of the shock that the bolt goes through breaks off the shock. The '85-'86 frames were a little different. The frames were designed a little tougher for the '87-'92's and they also had a different swingarm. Along with a powervalved engine and a 6-speed tranmission instead of five. They also went to a reed valve induction system rather than the case reed deal that the '85-'86 had.

Are the front shocks on the 500 any better. It looks like the rear is quite good from what I've read (manufacturer specs) but I dont really know. I like everything about the 500 except the power plant, I really dont trust myself with that much power. Its much longer, a lot wider, and it still doesnt weigh very much. Decisions decisions...

The BIG ZUKE comes with awesome Showa shocks. With all due respect to the 250 and it's riders. Everything on the 500 was designed much better than the 250. Not only better, but stronger. If you keep it stock the power is easy to control, not hard to ride at all. It almost feels like a 4-stroke until you really open it up. It's not near as scary as most people who have never rode one think

About a month or so ago I bought a 91' lt250r quadracer. It is great fun to drive, I wish I had more land and jumps around were I lived. I also have stock shocks, I haven't had any problems with them yet, but I still plan on replacing them someday. I paid $1800 for mine. It needed a little work but it works great now. It doesn't look brand new, it could use some new plastic(faded) and a frame paint job. I bought it with a FMF fatty pipe, boysen power reeds, and it was bored .75 mm. Did I get ripped off?
