Hey people,

My engine is having the gearbox fixed as we speak. Out of the ten gears in it i stuffed seven... hehe new shift forks all the way, new crank bearings and seals etc etc. Now, what do u guys reckon with the bearings. Original suzuki bearings a pretty damn pricey over here. We have bearing manufacturers all around our state which could possibly make a bearing to suit....or they may even carry the same size. Ive been told that suzuki is probably buying the bearings off these manufacturers anyway, stickin them in suzuki boxes and selling them for a huge price! True or false do you recon?

Also, where ther hell do u get the a'arm bearings! ive been trying for about a week to find someone who carries these size bearings. Is there anyone who does a cheap set of bearings for the a'arms? Thatnks for the help dudes and dudettes

If you can find bearings, and I would say that you could fairly easily, that are the same size and fit in there they will work fine. As far as a-arm bearings, do they really have bearings or are you talking about bushings? I wasnt aware than any a-arms used bearings.

yeah my silla has needle roller bearings in the a-arms. thats why the grease is so critical i think. ive also put zerks in the a-arms to help this. is it possible to get a bushing kit instead for the 500?

Now don't quote me on this, but I DON'T BELIEVE that the bearings are replaceable. When I had my a-arms powdercoated all I did was pop all the little steel rollers out and put them in a container and put them back in when I got the a-arms back. It did not appear that there was a cage for these rollers, rather that the a-arm was designed with a place to hold them. I found this strange but that's the way they appeared to be designed. Maybe mine had just rusted themselves to the a-arms and it looked that way. I don't know. That's about all I can tell you on that issue. As far as the crank bearings go, I seriously doubt that Suzuki manufacturers their own bearings (actually I know they dont) so they have to get them from somewhere. If you can get a high quality bearing with the same dimensions I wouldn't see a problem with that.

The a-arm bearings are a Suzuki only product. The tooling used to make that particular bearing belongs to them. The rest of the other bearings throughout the bike can be purchased from a variety of companies. Simply knock the old bearings out and get the number off the outside and use this to order them. The a-arm bearings I replaced with bushings from RAD Manufacturing out the DirtWheels mag. Buffalo Bearing and Wholesale Bearing each have advertisements in the back of these mags and are easy to deal with not to mention a lot cheaper. I got my crank bearings for $8.00 a piece when I think that Suzuki wanted $35.00 a piece for an identical item. I got my rear axle kit from T J Parts Express. They told me that the bearings were of a Chinese manufacture but I have had no problems with them. Remember, the seal is the life and death of the bearing so don't forget to get those too.

I think an outfit called pivot works may have bearings or bushings for the front. I know they have everything for the swingarm....

There is an article here that goes through the entire rebuild of a 'zilla from a box of parts to a beautiful quad. It has some really good info and I learned alot from it, hopefully it will shed some light for you guys as well.
