i recently put another motor in my 87 230 quadsport and it wont start now. it gets all the compression it needs and it has good spark. the only thing i could come up with is that th old motor had a wiseco .40 piston in it and the new ones has a stock piston. i have a mikuni flat side carb and it ran great on the old motor. do you think the jetting is off? also, when i put the top end back on the new motor, i noticed the cam has no top dead center. i thought i had it in upside-down but then all i did was spin the motor and it was at top dead with both valves closed. so i wanted to know...what is the correct cam setting for the 230 and what your opinion is wrong with it. i pull started it with my friends warrior and it ran for a little but it took a real long time to start and it bogged and sputtered unil i let off the gas and it died. it always idled and never ran this way before the other motor. i have the cam set so at top dead center the tick marks on the cam is flat to the head itself

any info will help

-Mike

when the cam marks are flat with the head is the cam pin on the top or the bottom, it should be on the top. did you use the same stator that was on the old engine. mine was hard to start and spit and sputtered when you gave it the gas and it was a bad stator. if you dont have a clymer manual it would pay to buy one. it tells you how to check the coil, stator and other electrical components. hope i helped

i have the clymer manual, im not sure if the cam pin is on top or bottom, ill take it apart this weekend. i used the stator off the old motor so i doubt its something electrical.

thanks for the help
