December issue of DirtWheels!!

People are just saying don't believe everything you read in Dirt Wheels especally when it comes to specs. They get those wrong constantly. I remember in the last year's 300EX versus Mojave shootout they said the 300EX weighed 30lbs less than the Mojave. It is two pounds. You would think that after doing the same shoot since '93 that they would have that information down already. Accuracy and proof reading are not high on the list of skills needed to be a Dirt Wheels editor.

first off i could be completly wrong but i'm pretty sure a mojave weighs more than 2 pounds more than a 300ex. anyways i'm not here to start an arguement i'm here to say i just got my december issue of atv action and they say the same thing about the compression ratio. they said premium gas tho.

You know guys it isn't that hard to check facts. Go to the website and look at the specs. '02 300EX 377lbs, '02 Mojave 379.3lbs. Umm, unless I can't subtract that is 2.3lbs or "about" 2lbs.
You want more examples of Dirt Wheels incompetance when it comes to specs? Look at that same article where it says that the 300EX has more travel than the Mojave. That isn't correct either. I have been subscribing to Dirt Wheels since the mid 80's and while it leaves a lot to be desired it is unfortunitly still the best mag when it comes to the amount of tests, shootouts, and product reviews. I'm hoping ATV Sport starts offering more, than I'll probably switch.

RMX251,
No doubt about that, I won't argue that they don't. But, how many of you have actually weighed your ATV's? I have. Nothing fancy, anyone can do it. I simply took 4 bathroom scales and put each one under a tire and weighed my quad with a full tank of gas, ready to ride. It weighed 398lbs. Before people say that bathroom scales arn't accurate, well, they all showed me weighing the same thing every time and that is the same weight as the doctor's scale so I think it is accurate enough.
The dry weights listed by the manufacturers are actually pretty close, a lot more so than I would have first believed. Face it, the 300EX is no light weight. Compared to the '87 250X (350lbs) on which it is based it now comes with an electric starter, battery, heavier wiring harness, e-start gears, and foot fences. All this added weight. The 27lb difference between it and the 250X is very believable.

Boy Rockrider, I see that I'm not the only one that you are making out with. Man, I couldn't figure out why you are acting like such a smarta$$ here until I saw what you rode. To be somebody who knows alot about fourwheelers, you weren't very knowledgeable in selecting your own machine, so why would you expect someone to believe you about anything you say? YOU RIDE A MOJAVE! ha ha ha. Ya know, you might want to change your name to KNOWITALL. It would fit you nicely, only it would be an oxymoron, considering you don't know ****. And by the way, I'm going to hold you up on those guys from Bombardier tomorrow. You had better hope that they aren't janitors who clean the shop floor.
