LT500 Vibration
#1
Every time I go riding I get the "death grip". The vibration just sets my hands closed. Has anybody used some sort of vibration isolation system on your handle bars. Maybe a rubber mount to suck up some of the vibration. Does anybody know of a solution or who makes a solution?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Ive heard the grips u use can make a difference. I use Pro Grip Gel grips and there really soft. I dont have any problem at all with 'death-grip' but i do have a problem with a stiff thumb! just purchased a twist grip setup so hopefully that'll help!

4x4 Rocket, get some good grips. I slao use the Pro Grips like AussieZilla does. Next make sure your counterbalancer is installed correctly. It doesn't sound like it is to me. Mine is bored .100 over with all the hi-po trimmings and doesn't vibrate badly.
AussieZilla, you will absolutely love that twist and I bet you will throw that thumb throttle in the crapper where it belongs. There's that big a difference.

You know slinger, I probably will. I tried the twist grip on the bike last nite and it needs a few mods to get it to work properly. Seems the cable itself is a little long. Problem is, ive got my first ever race meeting this Saturday. Ive done all my riding and practice on a thumb throttle, so i think ill race with the thumb throttle and then change it over later. Im hopefully takin some pics of my zilla tonite in race ready trim. Sweeett!

Slinger is right, if you have an enormous amount of vibration coming from the engine, the kind that can make your feet go numb on the foot pegs, then your counterbalancer was installed wrong, this is a common mistake among engine builders when rebuilding the Zilla motor, check this first before you buy other items to combat the problem, other than that grips will help along with a quality set of bars. I too use pro grips
AussieZilla, I've been using a twist throttle on my Zilla for years, and I would never think about going back to a thumb throttle

4x4rocket,
I speak from experience when I say that it really isn't that hard to make that mistake of installing the counterbalancer wrong. The last time I had my Zilla motor completely rebuilt the counter balancer was put in 180 degrees off, and I knew the difference as soon as I fired that monster up. It felt like I was sitting inside of a blender and that puppy was set on mince.
Even when I explained it to the mechanic, he was suprised that he had made that mistake, but being the outstanding wrencher he his he had no problems correcting it. This was his first Zilla motor he had ever done and he later explained that it would be easy for anyone who has not had the experience of working on these motors to make this mistake.

I added washers w/ rubber inserts ( check the local hardware store), and put them between the bar clamps and stem, and also on either side of the footpegs. I also plan on isolating the motor mounts w/ them when its time to put the motor in........also, is there any way to tell how the balancer should go w/ out running the motor? Are there any marks or anything?..
