I e-mailed ask the experts at LRD and they said to check the alignment with the gears, a pin that can get sheared on the counterbalancer, and take the cover off on the mag. side and check and see if there is and up down or in and out play and check the bearings for the crank shaft. I hope mine isn't anything major. I'm going to start to take it apart this weekend. i will check my frame for cracks again but i don't think there are any.

OK, here's my problem and I hope you can help.........My 2 dots are lined up, but......the piston's only about halfway through the stroke.....Do I hafta split my cases to fix this, or can I just pull a gear off and turn it a little bit? At the moment my side covers are off(waiting for new clutch, stator, and gaskets). Please say this is a simple fix, cuz I know mine vibrated my hands and feet numb (how could I tell?), and I know it shouldn't do that........Thanks for any help.....Latah.....

The 2 dots lining up dont mean anything !!!!!

Look at the gear on the crankshaft...... THERE IS LIKE 6 way to put the gear on and only one is right...

there should be a maek or something on the crankshaft itself.......

YES YOU DO HAVE TO LINE THEM UP !!!!!!!!!!!1 .......... BUT !!!! ......

THE GEAR THAT GOES ON THE CRANKSHAFT CAN BE PUT ON THE WRONG WAY. IF SO EVEN IF THE DOTS LINE UP THE COUTER BALENCER IS STILL OFF.....

Not if you line up the dot on the gear with the dot on the shaft.

fasternu, you needn't split any cases. On the Zilla, there are three punched marks: one on each gear and one on the waterpump shaft. If one is misaligned simply pull the clutch basket and then the reverse threaded nut on the waterpump shaft to remove the gear. Then line up your marks and put everything back on. While you have that thing semi-torn down you can inspect the keyway on the counterweight shaft to make sure it isn't the culprit.

ok this is what i know and i'm not a pro!!!! about 2 weeks ago o had my whole lt motor apart ok. when i put it back together (this is what i was told by a suzuki dealership) MAKE SURE THE PISTON IT AT THE TOP OF THE JUG!!!! (you can do this with the back o a ink pen!)
1. take out the plug 2. hold the back of the pen in the hole until it come to the top. 3.you should have the clutch side cover off already. 4. now your looking at the balencer the 'half moon' (if thats what you call it) should be facing down!! 5. put the gear on (looking at it the dot should be at about 4 o'clock) ok still with me?? 6. now put the primary gear on the crank shaft so that the dots line up..... thats it you should be golden...... 7. thats all i did and mine runs fine...... oh ya you should NOT have to SPLIT the cases to do this

Hey, Thanks fellas!! Sure enough, took the gear off, pulled the rod up all the way (jug's off), turned the balancer to get the dot where I wanted it, slid the crank gear back on so the dots are lined up, and, well, I guess I hafta wait awhile longer before I can see if it helps.........But, it only took 3 minutes at most to do (cover was already off), so I ain't gonna complain.....
