rear axle bearings 230 quadsport
#1
hello. i need to replace the rear axle bearings on my 230 quadsport. i've read through the other posts about these bearing replacements, but they seem to all apply to 250r and quadzillas. has anyone done this on a 230? i'm just curious how difficult it is and what the process is? i just had the top end rebuilt, so i'd prefer to save some costs and do this myself if possible.
also, any recommendations on where to buy new bearings? vincescycle.com has a kit for a seemingly good price. any opinions or other ideas about this?
thx

its pretty easy of a job. i done mine about 6 months ago. the cheapest place i found for the whole bearing kit was recreationunlimited.com, both bearings and seals were $39.99. first take off tires and and rims, next take left side wheel hub off, next take off both lock nuts on sprocket side. the sprocket hub has splines on it and can be tapped off with a hammer.next take off the brake caliper now you can
pull the axle out from the right side. afier the axle is out loosen the two bolts used to adjust the chain and remove the bearing carrier from the swingarm. you will have a bearing and a dust seal on each side, knock them out with a chisel and a hammer. between the 2 bearings will be a spacer. clean up the bearing carrier, on one side tap in new bearing with hammer and large socket till it bottoms out and then tap in new seal. from the other side reinstall spacer and that side bearing and seal. now reverse the procedure that you used to take axle and carrier out to reinstall it. hope i explained it so you can understand what it takes to do the job. if all else fails buy a clymer manual for 20 bucks, thats a lot less than the dealer will charge you to replace the bearings. if you want the manual, i can give you a website to buy one from.they are really detailed and have lots of pictures. hope i helped

excellent. thank you very much markvette. that doesn't seem too difficult now. i've got a service manual on order, so hopefully that will help on things like this in the future. i really appreciate your help.
thanks.
thanks.

I have all three of those machines a 88 250 quadracer, 87 zilla, and a 87 230 quadsport. umm... the 250 and 230 both use the same bearing and seals but the 500 uses bigger bearing and bigger seals. hope this will help some.
