How do you answer the comments about buying american? I know the Polaris is made in the usa, but only technically... From what I now, all the parts are manufactured over seas and it's assembled here...

gotta love the rice burners!

From what I understand "most" of the Polaris parts are made here in the US, But the engines are made overseas. That may be changing in the future, because Polaris does have a engine plant in Wisconsin. That is where they make many snowmoblie engines, including the one that is in my sled. I always try to but american, but I don't push it on anyone else. Buy the quad that you like best and have fun!!!!!

Well here's an interesting thing to think about. The big three auto makers donated roughly 20 million to the World Trade Center relief program. The Japanese manufactures donated millions also, but also noted that alot of it came from dealerships in the U.S. and employees. These manufactureres were quick to point out these were foreign donations, meaning they took credit for American dollars. Do you Honda guys, auto's, lawnmowers, or any others really know if it's American or Japanese. The Japanese will tell you they donated millions to the releif act. The big three donated the large sums from their names FORD, GM, Chrysler, plus money from employees that they didn't even mention, because it was not from the corporation......Ford is an American name, Honda Japanese, and the profits end up in those countries. That's how I look at it.

no, it does not matter.

Funny you should bring in the automaker donation thing... Some info being passed around via email about the sums donated is supposed to be TOTALLY false.

Besides, Chrysler is mostly German...

Thats odd, I'm a tool&die maker. I live in the U.S. and the company i work for, which is an independent company, does work for gibbs die casting, which is an american company that supplies gm,ford,daimer/chrysler,honda,toyota,borgwarner with alot of their component castings. SO, yes it does matter if you buy american, and dont forget some toyota's are built in princeton, indiana and georgetown,ky and possibly owensboro, ky
Alot of quads are also built in the states, just remember when you buy one, whichever one it is you buy, see if its assembled in america. Then a couple of Americans are getting paid to put it together and they probably make pretty good money doing it, which in turn helps the overall american economy.

i'm with ya on that kycat... employing our people that aren't just pencil pushers is very important. suzuki is building or just finished a big facility here in the US to build ATV's here.
BTW, is your company looking for any entry level engineers?

I would say it matters alot. When the talking heads speak about the economy slowing down and the U.S. FACTORIES closing being a major part of it, they're talking about all kinds of factories. I have yet to buy a polaris quad because of fear of quality, but will really consider it next time due to the made in USA sticker on it.

Whenever I buy something I ALWAYS try not to buy something that says MADE IN CHINA.- We're financing the buildup of the next world nuclear power. One of these days they will try to take Taiwan back, and we might try to stop them. I dread the day because I know we helped build there armament up buying the crap they make.
A lot of the US factories are shutting down and heading over there for cheap laybor.
There even making Justin ropers over there (cowboy boots)!!!

sorry so long, but this subject gets under my skin.

I know the praries are assembled in the US and that some of the yamahas and most of the hondas are also, but how much of the total atv are made here?

Hey guys don't forget Arctic Cat. Made in the good old USA.
I may not be American, but yes I try to buy North American. Our economies, culture and livelyhoods are so intertwined.

Well, as far as Honda is concerned....Actually the majority of the quads are both made and assembled in the states.

Honda hardly produces any of it's own componets with the exception of the engines. The rest of the quad has parts that are made by several different vendors across the world over.

The frames, racks, and all other tubular steel parts on the ATVs are made by an American company who has ,until the past couple of years, been the leading seller among gunracks!!! This company is based in the U.S.

If you really check into things....pull up parts prices for a 1995 TRX300 and compare them with the same parts from a 1998 model. You would be amazed at the difference in price simply because the parts are now manufactured over here.

A better example would be price comparisons between the TRX400EX parts and the TRX300EX parts. The 300EX is an import model while the 400EX is an American model. ALL the plastic and seat for the 400EX will run you less than 450.00 The same parts on the 300EX will run you near 1000.00, if not more.

Some parts on the American made models still come from Japan...and you will know which ones they are when it comes time to replace them.
