Hey,,

I just got a 91 model, the 90 model is the same chassis and everything i believe.. A stock lt250r will run around 70mph. When you start adding aftermarket pipe, silencer, air filter. rejet, and bump the compression up. These things will fly, almost literally
I can be running in third, fourth, and fifth gear and nail it and the front end starts coming up on me.

If you get one, i suggest putting some decent aftermarket shocks on it, have your rear shock rebuilt and revalved, and some works performance dual rates up front, this helps the handling very much, and keeps your teeth intact on the jumps by not letting the suspension bottom out.
I think mine handles good for the old chassis and suspension, They are very manuverable, easy to toss around on a trail.
I rode a raptor 2 weeks ago, and i like the old suzuki better actually, but thats just my opinion.
The ground clearance can differ from tire sizes and how wore out the shocks are, if it has the stock shocks on it, its going to have some extra suspension sag making less ground clearance.

The 90 Suzuki is the same frame as 87-90. The rear ends are the same 85-90 the front ends are the same 87-92. In 91-92 they changed the rear shock linkage from the rocker lever type of linkage to a more compact linkage similar to honda's. The motors are all the same in 88-92. 85-86 didn't have powervalves. The 87 had a larger reed cage.

Before I tore down my 89 LT250R I had quite a few mods on it you can see it at the link below in my signature. I would beat honda's all day long as long as they didn't have a big bore. They have plenty of power its just the frame that is lacking. It's pretty harsh unless you get some good shocks.

Close but not quite, they changed the rear end in 87 to the style bearing carrier in all models after that, the square shaped. They also changed the Air Box set up in the 91-92 models. I have a 92 frame, swing arm, and rear shock on my 90 LT. When I got this stuff I found out that I had to get the updated air box and hosing, plus the rear brake pump was changed just enough so that it had to be modified to fit the 92 frame.

Just wondering but you said you are running a 92 frame and swingarm but are using a 90 shock they are different shocks between the 91-92 compared to the 85-90 shocks. Because of the different linkage system. One thing that I like to run on my 89 is a 85-86 straight style seat especailly since I am using maier low pro rear plastic which I love the lower plastic and the straight seat you can move around more freely.

I think you will be happy with a LT250R I would just recomend staying away from 85-86 model years but you are looking at a 90 so you don't have to worry about that. :-) The 90 LT is the same as 88-90. I would recomend getting rid of the stock airbox on it though. because it's hard to get a filter in and out. Plus everytime you take the filter out to clean it you can take your finger and run it around on the inside of the air boot and you can feel small particles of dirt. To get rid of the problem I just went with a clamp-on filter that goes directly to the carb. Made filter maintnance much easier and noticed the throttle responce was more crisp. The handling is kinda stiff with stock shocks. But LT's can be modded very nicely to handle and ride good.

Yeah I had to get the new rear shock. What happened was I orderd a used frame, Swing arm, and rear shock from a used parts place. When they got here they were all off of a 92. So I had to call back and get them to send me all the linkage and airbox equipment to make it work. Not to bad they sent me that stuff for free and they paid for shipping, it was on my door step the next morning. Pretty quick for a company in Canada.
