I do alot of general trail/woods riding and possibly some racing later this year.. What kind of airbox mods would you more experienced racers/riders suggest. I'm thinking just remove the lid completely and use the dual stage unifilter, or a k&n with an outerwear. What would you guys suggest..

I'm also gonna add a paul turner mid-range pipe, and i want to do the airbox mod and filter swap then so i only have to rejet once.

Although I have had my 250 for only a short time, the best thing I did for my airbox was put it on the shelf and put a K & N right on the carb.

I have a 91 as well. the routing of the boot around the rear shock stops you from putting a K&N directly on the carb on the 91-92(unlike the '85-90) I have a K&N and outerwears, with lid on, but i removed all the hardware from inside the airbox, leaving a few holes in the airbox from where it was mounted.
i ride in a lot of sand, if i removed the lid it would fill up with sand eventually. there is a kit that you can remove the lid and cover the hole with a nylon filter-like material and it allows much more flow than with the lid... not sure what it's called... but its the same materials used in outerwearson K&N filters and is held on with velcro.
