Extended A-arms good or bad?
#1
I looking to buy new A-arms (Strong Arm) and was going to get +1-+2. For my 250R. But i wanted to know the limitations or better yet the advantages and disadvantages. What do you have on your bike? Do you prefer it or would you have left it stock? Does it make trail riding more dificult?
Thanks for your time.

it depends on your needs...
if you're racing MX or TT widening makes it more stable, able to corner harder same goes for dunes riding. for trail riding, it limits some of the trails you can go on... depending on how tight they are. if it's just for normal trailriding i'd say not to do it, at higher speeds it just puts the wheels out further to hook on a tree & send you spinning.
plus... you will need new shocks(or re-valved & re-sprung if you have aftermarket already), the new wider A-arms creates a lot mor leverage on the shocks.
i'm currently running magnum +2" A-arms on my '91 LT,(if i'd known about strongarm when i bought them, i'd have strongarm A-arms) i ride some dunes, do some local racing, and some trail riding. i have stock shocks on it right now(cranked preload and copression adjustments all the way up) and i bottom it occasionally, so i take it easy on the jumps until i can afford to get some shocks setup for it. trail riding i have found some bridges i can't cross and some trails i can't go on. but that's the price i pay... to (eventaully) be a little better on the track. i also matched the A-arms with a wider axle(i recommend lonestar or RPM)...together it is more stable all around.
