I have 14 miles on my new Vinson. I pulled it out today to ride and both front tires were flat. Seems that some thorns punctured the Dunlop tires. Would this be covered under warranty? Why would new tires puncture so easily?

Sorry to tell you but they won't be covered under warranty. The reason they punctured so easily is that they're only 2 ply tires. This is the reason most experienced riders replace the stock tires as soon as they buy a new quad. I replaced my stockers after only 2 weeks and three flats. I never had a flat with my Devils (6-ply).

If you can't afford a new set of tires just plug your current ones. There is a product out on the market called SLIME. You put it in your tire and if a thorn puts a hole in your tire it's supposed to seal the hole and prevent you from getting a flat. (Slime won't help a sidewall puncture) I've never used the stuff myself so I can't say for sure on how well it works.

 

I had 4 ply Bear Claws put on my Vinson before it left the dealership.
Slime works well for thorn puntures.

 

Thorn punctures....i'm from canada and ain't never seen a thorn that could puncture a tire....what are you talking about...cactus thorns?

 

You obviously don't spend much time in the woods GreatCanadian. I'm in Nova scotia and there are lots of thorn trees around....thorns over 2 inches long!! I even put them through the tires of my jeep when offraoding. Maybe you don't have them on the island...not really sure. But we sure have them all over the rest of Canada.

 

I've gotten into a real pissing match with others on this forum, regarding Dunlop Tires. I've had a flat tire at only 100 miles. I suggest putting Slime in them, until you decide to replace them all. Good Luck!

 

my buddy had an old polaris with dick cepeks that always punctured on Thorns... He got some slime and claimed it worked great and the punctures stopped.

 

I have seen slime before, but how does it work? Does it damage rims or has anybody heard? Unfortunately, I am not thrilled with Dunlop tires. I am going to have to use them for a while, until I can afford a new set.

Hey sambo...only got to getting back to this post just today...i spend CONSIDERABLE time in the woods...i used to work with the forestry department...and i spend all my spare time hunting and fishing....that's why i was so interested in your thorn stories....we don't have thorns like that here.

 

It does not damage rims or any thing like that. It has little rubber bits in it and will fill the holes along with the slime. the only thing is that when you go to put air in the tire you will have to take the guts out of the stem and put a tooth pic through the slime because it will seal the tire plug hole. The only bad thing about slime is when you take it of it gets all over the machine. Cabelas has 4 bottles for 20 bucks.


I do agree on the DUNFLOPS they do $uck. I will be changeing mine soon it has the same tires and thank god I have the rears fairly worn and they will be replaced before summer ends.
