Z400's bottom end power question?
#1
I got the oppratunity to spend some time on the 400EX for the first time yesterday(nice).
When you guyes say that the Z400 doesn't have as much bottom end torque as the 400ex are you spliting hairs, or is it a real noticeable differance.
I'm considering the Z400 but this really has me concerned, I wasn't real impressed with the power of the 400EX or it's low end torque.
Any thoughts?

The low end is kind of weak. We've got rid of the snorkel, airbox lid, baffle and rejetted. It's a lot better, but could use more tinkering. Perhaps a couple teeth on the rear. Pipes and filters should solve that problem also...

But I do not think it's any less powerful than an EX on the bottom end. The Scrambler 500 with a pipe will pull it off the line, but that's it. I think it runs great, and it is torquier than a 2 stroke, so just rev it out a bit more and make GOOD HP.
I think the silencer will change that for us, and we'll know soon.

Bottom End- Yeah, it does feel a "tad" geared high, fix? A pipe and jets, or sprocket, or both. I am still breaking mine in, so this could be something that smooths out after such time. Personally, I'm just gonna get a different pipe on mine as soon as I see a shootout of pipes. My girl on the otherhand is going with the sprocket as she doesn't really feel comfortable with such high speeds anyways.
Wheelies- AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME 1st, 2nd, or 3rd baby. I personally like to start out low in 2nd, almost lugging, then give her some throttle love and lean back, it starts to come up a little, then the revs start coming up and so does the front end. Whoopie!! These bikes are so freakin awewsome. We love ours and YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU GET ONE. Yeah, the bottom end could use a smidge of help, if you care to crawl along, but if you are like me, you wanna use what it's real good at, and that's flyin low.
peace

Yeah, you notice just a little bit of docileness for just a bit of the powerband, but it makes it very predictable and it jumps right into the power when you want it. I think we're making a big comment about nothing really. It has the power, but it's geared kinda high so you feel the snap in your neck, but it doesn't tear your head off when your trying to put.

Yeah, but the Z400 was not designed like the raptor was, it was designed to actually work in the real world than look pretty on paper with big numbers for stupid rich people to buy. The Raptor is all show no go. Big corked up 660 that makes only 35hp, retro-Banshee styling that puts the Rad up too high, effectively making the quad tippy, disregard of suspension or frame design... The Z400 however... Handling, racing, sliding, name it, it's designed to do it all. The Raptor gets waxed on the tighter MX courses by the 400EX despite a 8hp deficit, the Z400 was designed to go on the same track and dust them both... That's not to mention the price difference between the two... d@mn, put that 900 bucks towards some modifying and you've got yourself something that an equally as modified Raptor can't keep up to. The Z isn't even designed to go after the Raptor, just to take out the 400EX. The next high-performance entry by Suzuki is going to be shooting for the DS and Raptor, and when it does take the shot the difference is going to be like comparing the Z to the EX. It'll be all around better.
Or just buy a Zilla and toast the Raptor's "all mighty bottom end" for half the price... That's what I would do.

Yes, it does shift ulta smooth. I thought I would let someone else notice that since I've been off the manual clutch bikes for awhile.
Wheelies are too easy. First and second in the normal sitting position, third, lean back a little bit.
Let's keep the flames down guys. That would be great huh?
