Do I have to do anything special when I first get my quad? I'll be looking it over for loose bolts and stuff but is there anything I should look out for? Also is it OK for me to run the Z400 without lubing the chain for the weekend? I don't have any chain lube yet. Thanks.

The first few rides are very crucial to how your chain will wear. It will not need lubing for the first ride if you run less than 4 hours. At the end of your first ride lube the chain while it is still warm, so that the lube sets properly. The other major importance with the chain is keeping the chain adjusted properly. A chain streches the most in the first 6 weeks of its life. Keep the chain in the 30 - 40mm slack as outlined in the owners manual. The last thing is keeping it clean. As the OM states kerosene works well, just make sure that the kerosene is not running off the chain when you go to lube it.

Also check out your manual for the engine break in procedure before you get out there and try to run it full out. If you do, you'll be sorry.

Check EVERYTHING for loose. Each one will be different. Most of us are finding the rear brakelight spring coming off. Watch those wheel lugs.
I use spray on "Chain Wax" The stuff works great and just coats the chain for many long hours.

After my ride last night I washed off my chain with water from the garden hose and I let it dry. I then put chain lube on the chain and let it sit over night. Now I'm going riding today, when I get back from the ride I'll wash it again and let it dry. Do I have to re-lube my chain again? Thanks.
