No pipe on the Z. Baffle is out and lid off along w/ no snorkel. Jetting is at 140 but I'm at 5000ft. Sea level should be around 155-160 is my guess w/ the same mods. I ride only dunes unless it's my occassional mx race which I haven't done yet on the Dale. Sand doesn't get quads dirty. The wife rides the Z and Z loves it....

Sandgod,
How much more power did taking the baffle out give you? I know taking off the lid is supposed to be about 2 HP. Did the baffle give you more than another 2 HP? How does it sound, and is it over say 100 db?

DEARNO THANX ALOT

I have always had 2 wheels since I was 3

My brothers girl just bought a new Honda 300EX last week, and asked to keep it at my house, and i have full permission to use/ride it

I did'nt think i would like it, but I fell in LOVE, this is Sooo much fun.
So I started looking into one of my own, i am leaning towards the C-Dale or the Z400. I really like having reverse though, I ride in the sand pits as well as the woods. I guess i would have to lose the reverse w/ the C-dale.

Any suggestions on which one to choose???

I have 2 Kawasaki KX250's (1998&2000); so I think I am going to put the 1998 up for sale now

ALSO SandGod, If you remove the aircleaner lid, would it be dangerous to ride in wet areas and stream crossings????

Thanx again,
LOBE

Barely Legal removing the baffle helped quite a bit. It's louder, but I don't think over 100db.
Lobeex that's your call. I don't submerge any of my quads. I'm in the dry west of course...

Sandgod,

I rejetted mine with a 150 (I'm at/near sea-level), and it seems to have very strong throttle reponse and midrange, but tapers off at high rpm. The plug does look a little lean, but I was thinking it may just seem to taper off because the midrange power is better now. Any experience like this?

My Scrambler really did that after I did the HPD lid and carb jets. That thing is so strong down low. I did pull the plug and it was BLACK. Changed it out and dropped the jetting back. It didn't get any faster, just cleaned the plug up. I think it was just too hot that day. I've been riding my Z400 ever since, but I'm leaving work in a few minutes to go take another rode on the Scrambler. We'll see how different that is after a few weeks on the Z!!

Badelk, there are 3 different versions, but not what you think. the regular kick start and electric start dirt bikes share the identicle engine. only the e has the button. the s has lower comp., smaller cams, different/smaller intake and the exhaust pipe diameter is less than the e or the kick modle and the pipe is more restricted(and of course the carb difference)

The atv engine does have the same comp, but I think the intake and exhaust are different.(different header) not sure on the jetting, but there are some minor differences. the cams may be different too. the clutch and gearbox is probably beefed up for atv use too.

common mods for the s bike is to cut a 3*3 inch hole in the airbox and rejet with a 155main(think stock is 142)bigger pilot and raise the needle or get a new one with a different taper. good power gains from this mod.

BTW, do I need to rejet if I'm just pulling the baffle. I am at sea level. It's probably louder yes. It doesn't sound like junk does it?

My dealer pulled the baffle out. He said it made a nice difference. He doesn't let the customer take them home w/ the baffle in. He puts it in a bag and hands it to them.
Lateapex try a 155 and see what you come up with. Can't hurt that's for sure...
