Well, I second that. I also have a friend with a Raptor (stock) and I also beat him in 4 gears with my Z400. After that, he passed me but not by much. Laterz:cool

i read in some mag that the raptor did 76mph, and the 400ex 66.7. i'd expect the z to be at least 68 if these numbers are true.

OK, yes the quad will go that fast. Do you want to take them that fast, NO !!! When you hit those speeds the motor is red lined for a long period of time. Well a long time in the red line would be like 10 seconds. The only reason the magazines can attain these speeds is because they don't give a rats *** about the quad. If they blow it up who cares, its not their quad. Don't go trying to hit these speeds with your quad because you can but you shouldn't. Unless your parents bought it for you and then your parents are going to pissed. When I hit 62.7 mph on my Z it was revved really good and I don't plan on doing that again. So think about what your doing before trying to prove to your friends how fast your quad can go and whose is faster.

I feel sorry for your Z. It must be in pain.

Bbertram....i agree with you on your thoughts about continued high revving...but shouldn't the rev limiter prevent any damage from over-revving...wouldn't the rev limiter be set below redline?

On my truck the rev limiter is 500 rpm away from the max rpm it will go. That is 75% into the red line. I'm sure quads are similar in having their rev limiter. Anyways why bother revving it that high, just for an extra 5 mph? If you look at the dyno graphs all over the web you will notice the power drops off allot after 7500 rpm, why not stay at max power? Oh well, people will always want to see how fast they can go and show off to their friends what their mom and dad bought them. I prefer to keep my Z running for the next several years and not needing a rebuild after 2 years of riding. It just makes no sense to rev it that high.

bertram, don't know about you but I max out my machine everytme I ride, sometimes for several minutes at a time. I have a speedo on it, I would say it's off by about +/- 3 mph and it always hit about 76 mph. Maxing out your ride isn't damaging as long as you have a rev limiter and a well maintained machine as in fresh oil, vavles adjusted, etc...
