put the radar on the Z
#1
A friend has a radar gun and we ran the Z to see what she has. I didn't want to keep it pegged too long as it is still fairly new, but I got 65MPH out of it. I may be able to get 1 or 2 more in a few weeks after she's broken in a little more.
Has anyone looked into increasing a tooth or two on the front sprocket to gain a little more in the top end?
Oh, BTW: raced a friend with a bone-stock 2001 Raptor -- beat him through 4 gears. He took me on the top end (as you would expect). That seems pretty respectable to me...

Pretty cool. How much do you weigh if you don't mind?
I think you'll see more than 65 after 8-10 hours on the machine. I've got about 8 now and it's really starting to pull the top end better than it did the first few quick pulls.

you should get more then that after breaking it in, i raced a few cars and got around 57-63 depending on who told me, and this was on my 300ex....and i know a stock piped 400ex gets 3-5 lengths infront of me....so id think the z400 would be atleast like 70, dunno tho

You can't believe what a car speedo tells you, thats not going to cut it at all. I used my GPS on my Z and I got a max speed of 101 kph which is 62.7 mph. This is broken in and I'm about 215 lbs. So if I was a super fly, 150 lbs, I can see it going 65-67 mph maybe but she will be revved out to the max !!! Your best bet for more speed would be to increase the front sprocket by a tooth or two, I hate revving the **** out of quads for a long time.

I weigh about 205 lbs. I only have about 4 hours on the quad and hope to get a bit more top end when she's broken in a bit more. I also plan on changing the front sproket but need to find one first...

I don't know the riding conditions you usually ride in....but why would you want to sacrifice bottom end for more speed? Isn't 60mph enough? I rarely see 5th gear on my C-dale....and I'm thinking of putting a larger rear sprocket on....

I have a garmin e-trex gps and got exactly 68.8mph on my 400ex(stock gearing with 22" tires) I would have gotten over 70 going down a hill. I also weigh 215lbs, so hey, maybe the ex is faster than you guys think! just kidding. I know the Z faster, I drove the dirt bike and it would kill my ex in a drag race. had much more power. but this was the"e" and not the "s", plus the bike weighs 100lb less. I imagine the Z will be noticeably faster after it's broken in. The dirt bike guys notice a difference with their bikes.
