Thrust, you could surely find something used in your area for a little bit of nothing. I just turned 16 and just got my warrior. I got my first when i was 13. It was a 1990 honda xr100r(i know a dirtbike) which i still own. I only paid 300 for it. It was a great way to get out and play on the trails. I earned the money working for a farmer in melon fields.(it was hell). Then when i turned sixteen i bought a decent quad, a warrior.(hopefully trading in for a raptor or z400 soon) Just look around your area for anything like a dirtbike, quad, even atc. You will find something, hell if you lived in indiana(maybe you should just move here, lol) i would sell you that damn xr100 for 150. Just keep looking.

I'm sure you could find a great quad for around $2000. Anyway, you made me feel bad for ya man. Keep your chin up and look around. A 10 year old machine that didn't get ragged out will be a Lot of fun. Do it before you start wanting a car. Damn, if I lived close I'd give you some work do to. I like it when someone has a goal in mind.
You've been looking for 3 years? I know you're only supposed to legally be on a 90 since you're under 16, but what are you looking for exactly? Maybe we can send out the search party for you.

Here's what I'm willing to do. I have no problem helping you out if others want to do the same. I'll send you $100 if you can get commitments from others to pass the hat for a few bucks to help in your quest. I know you probably don't want the charity and this doesn't happen much. Put it on me. Let's have us a Thrust quad fund. We come up with a grand, you come up with a grand. Get a used Blaster, Mojave, 250EX or something else to go have your fun on.

Awhile back a dealer a couple hours south of me offered me an old Yamaha 3 wheeler for $350. Sure it wasnt fast or even a good handler. It was a 225? or something like that. However if I were 13 I'd have jumped at the opportunity to own an atv of any type for that much cash. When I was 13 I had only a beloved Honda CT70 mini trail. I dreamed of a Tri-moto and could never have one. I even remember the commercials. That was 20 years ago....whew, I'm old! My point is, if you really want an ATV you can find one for a very small amount of cash. You just have to be dilligent. I remember awhile back a dealer was selling a disassembled late model blaster for $800. It needed a topend rebuild but it was all there. It was potentially a $900 running blaster. These deals arent every day but you can find them.

Wow....a Thrust quad fund........I'm sure you won't get many people to agree with that. I've already got 500 bucks saved up. I rode a 250EX once....until I rode a Banshee I thought it was the fastest thing around.

I'm sure binfordw would send me atleast 400,or more by himself.
Were REALLY REALLY good friends...lol

Anyway BarelyLegal, the thought is great, but not many people at all are willing to send money somewhere, who they dont even know.

Maybe I can find a Blaster, for only 500 bucks somewhere.

BUT any body that IS interested PM me,for instructions.

Thrust, I admit this isn't an inexpensive sport, but there may be another area you could explore. I bumped into another rider recently who had a decent 86 Suzuki LT250R. I had an 89 so we struck up a conversation. Long story short, he bought his at a police auction for $100 as is. All he did was replace the spark plug and tune it up! Call your local police department and speak to the person who handles the auctions. You may need to call several numbers as they usually consolidate the items from different jurisdictions but it may be a great place to look. Even if you don't find a quad, you may be able to buy a dirt bike or something else you could part out or resell at a profit, then buy your quad elsewhere. Just make sure you find out if you can resell what you buy. These are usually untitled vehicles but there is no restrictions on parting it out (i.e. EBAY works well) or if you find a quad you like you could just keep it.

Good luck

$500 is a really good start towards a play bike(2,3, or 4 wheels). I have seen many 200x's(3 wheels)going for $700 around here (and we tend to pay more in utah than the east coast). I have also seen blasters for as cheap as $800 in TX so, don;t lose hope - just keep saving and working until you find a deal. If you spend your money now on PB then you will dash any hopes of a bike in the near future. I had a time when I was a teenager just like your and I did the same thing, magazines, books, ect(no internet then )I saved and finally found a YZ80 for $500 and WHAT A BLAST IT WAS! Now I am considerably older and still enjoy both atv's and dirt bikes and plan to until I am too crotchety to move. The main lesson you can learn from this is to keep focused on something you really want and work your tail off to get it. You can do it.

BTW: It's generous of Barelylegal to offer you the money but, I would recommend that you will be better off by earning it yourself(Do work for family, friends, throw newspapers(what I did), mow lawns, ect).
