Hi everyone, new to the forums and I have a question. Got my Z400 last thursday and don't even have a tank of gas through it yet. My annoying problem is that when I go slow down hills with the clutch pulled in the engine will stall. Now I'm not talking monsterous hills and in no way have I been beating on my quad, I'm taking it into the dealer today but wanted to know if anyone had a similar prob. Thanks

I don't have a Z personally, but does it idle slow anyway? If it idles OK on level ground but stalls on hills it is probably a float adjustment issue. Let the dealer fix it if you don't feel comfortable with doing it yourself.

Hey Wallscaper, No offense buddy but I remember when I upgraded in 1985 from a 200S to a 200X and I had to learn to use a manual clutch. I did the same thing. I kept stalling out. Give the Z more gas and dont be a PU55Y about it. Have fun!

Hey!
I've noticed this type of symptom on my Z. I have a small hill I go down to get to my riding area and if the bike isn't warmed up, and I still have the choke partially on, it stalls on me almost everytime. BUT, when it's warmed and no choke is on I don't have any problems.
Do you know if you may have the choke on and the bike not warmed up? By warmed up I let it idle for 3-5 minutes before I take off.

There was an earlier post regarding this (2-3 weeks ago) it had something to do with the throttle cable adjustment. You may want to look back for the thread.

Mine did that for about the first 2 tanks until it was broken in. No adjustments and it runs perfectly now. It does need choke in the morning unlike my Scrambler thuogh.

Thanks everyone for your input. I want to reply to everyones ideas. No offense taken Kencoolstone about the manual clutch, but I think I'm pretty good at it since having a '88 Warrior,'92 LT250R, '95,'96,'97 300EX, '00 400EX and now my '03 Z400. The quad is warm with the choke off, soo no probs there, I think it could be the float and so does my Dealership. They called Suzuki and there are no service bulletins out on it so they are going to look at the float today. I never thought of a throttle cable mis-adjustment, but if they can't seem to find anything wrong I will piont them in that direction. Thanks

i had the same problem with my z, but take off the seat and there is a carb vent line that connects to the snorkel, mine was kinked and kept causing it to stall

Mine was stalling in the first thank only and only when I give gas and then pull the clutch while release gas. I think this is normal because the rpm drop fast and the rpm goes below your normal idle rpm. Give more idle rpm or wait for a couple of thank of gas. Your motor will run more easily then.

Got my Z back from the dealership the other day. The teck raised the float tab about 4mm. (lowers the level in fuel in the bowl) Had it out for a ride today and it seems to have done the trick Thanks for all of your input
