Why get rid of the parking brake?
#1
I was wondering if there is some big gain by losing it? I thought it was a pretty good idea personally and was surprised with how many people get rid of them. I know there were a couple of trails I stopped on that I just wouldn't trust my compression or park job with.

If you haul yours on a trailer I wouldnt get rid of it, I have adjusted mine once since ive had mine and it is a pretty simple procedure, I dont like trailering anything with out a good parking brake so its not rocking back and forth in gear.

You really should never trailer anything " in gear" from what a race shop told me always put it in nuetral and put the park brake on or in motor cycles just strap them well and put them in nuetral. he said it is hard on the gears rocking back and forth.

One good reason on the Z400 is so you can loosen the chain adjustment bolts a lot easier. I also don't like the bulky clutch perch. As for trailering a quad in gear, that's a bad thing. I don't remember the mechanical reason but it was in Dirt Wheels or one of the mags a year or so ago. It screws up something in the tranny or clutch. You should be using tie downs and they will hold quads in place just fine. If you're not using tie downs, well, then something is wrong with people who do that.

Wow, this thread has been very informative for me. I will no longer trailer in gear. (I trailer to all riding spots.)

On my Cannibal, there is a little button on the front brake lever. You just pull in the lever and push this button that holds the lever in. Can't weigh more than .05 lbs anyways since it's a tiny button and a little sring.
Hmmm.... putting a parking brake on the brake lever... now there's a thought! Honda tries to make theirs to complicated and the one on my old 300ex quit working the first time I used it... and I bought it new. Why in the hell would you make it where you have to push a button, and pull in the clutch to activate the rear brake and call that a parking brake? Thats about like putting your shirts on backwards and then turning it around after you put it on... on purpose, or getting in your truck through the passenger side just for the hell of it.

i agree with yodaddy 100%. the only time ive really seen the parking break on the front brake lever was on my blaster... which the breaks suck anyways! and i know a person with a brand new 300ex and the parking break did the same thing you said yours did.
