Has anyone else dropped there front sprocket down a size. If so where did you get your sprocket at. I think they are a little to high geared!

I actually think they are geared too low. The gearing might be good for racing but I just trail ride. While riding this weekend I kept looking for a 6th gear.

6 gears would be nice, only if first was lower. If you were looking for 6th gear on a trail, you must have some really boreing trails, we call those roads where we live. On our "trails" if you get out of second gear, it is a "smooth" one.

Anyway, I droped the front to a 13 and the rear up to 42. I liked the factory gearing, it was almost useable but it still required a fair amount of clutch slipping to make it through the really rough stuff. With the lower gear, I can pull some of the hills in 3rd now, if you have it wound out at the bottom of the hill. But as always when gearing down like this, the relult is constant gear changing, 1-3, where before I was useing 1-2.

Call SideWinder, the fornt gear is $39.99, rear$69.99, total $120.97 with shipping. I am sure you could get them cheaper if you look around, I was in a hurry, I ordered them monday and recieved them on wednesday.

Good luck, have fun

Later...

ps if you order from SideWinder, ask for the retaining clip for the front sprocket.

I did the same thing that GTV said to do. I also ordered from Sidewinder. The reason for the extra expense is they are tool steel instead of normal stuff. They were out of clips when I ordered my front sprocket so I picked it up at the local parts store. Big improvement over stock. The stock gearing is just to high for technical trails. Which in this area the Raptors and 400ex's all regear also.

Hey Zookyrider, are you goeing to do any mods, like exhaust, carb and filter?

I would love to get the claimed 5hp low-end gain, but I hate haveing a loud exhaust system when trail rideing. I don't mind the noise when out raiseing hell, but on the trails, it just doesn't fit in with the quiet 4x4's.

Just wondering,

I'm planning on it. I'm waiting to see what trinity comes out with. I am going to modify my stock exhaust by drilling out the end of the pipe and I have already put a few more holes in the inside of the muffler in addition to the stock hole. I would really like to add a 39mm FCR and a pipe along with the usual air box and jetting. I'm not sure on the cams yet. I would hate to lose my low end power. I do a bunch of rock ledge climbing and hillsides and I need the bottom end. I would like a deeper tone but I'm not wanting to go extremely loud either. I heard some pipes at the ATV rodeo Saturday that sounded really good but I didn't have a chance to go see what they were. Plus I ride in the National Forest and I don't want to make too much noise.

If I didn't know better, I would sware you were rideing on my trails here in TN(HaHa). My first Z ride I was very, very careful not to hit anything in the rear, I only lightly hit 3 times that I felt, once a little harder than the others. Didn't know untill the next day that I bent the heck out of the rear sprocket. I didn't get excited cause my new one came the next day.

Anyway, I need to do some research on the exhausts, A guy I know has a 300EX with full exhaust sys(its old), this thing is so loud, it will ring your ear even with a MX helment on, you woln't ride behind him long. Head ache in a matter of minutes!

Keep us posted on your exhaust choice.

I do a lot of slow trail riding so I think i'm gonna drop a tooth in the front maybe add one to the back not sure yet. I also hit some rocks this past Sunday on accident i'm trying to be careful with this wimpy rear skid plate but better then nothing.
As for exhausts I rode my friends XR 250 with an FMF on it but I forgot which system he had on it but its LOUD. As I was riding it I was telling myself I wouldn't be able to deal with the noise all the time. Hows the Yosh pipe sound?
