If you want to be like everyone else buy a "thumper". It takes a little more work to keep the king alive. Look for the marks under the clutch side cover. There will be a small dot on each gear. Have them pointing outward and line them up. There is a dot on the crank too(hard to see). That also has to be lined up. Post if you need more help.

The Mutt is just scared of the a$$ whoopin he's gonna get once the almighty is rolling which could be counted in hours now. Where on the crank are the marks and what do they get lined up with? Thanks.
by the way mutt if I get a another quad it's not gonna be a thumper!!!

There are splines on the crank. One of them will have a little dot(where the splines are). Take the gear that slides on the crank and find the dot on it. Then put the dots next to each other. Then find the gear for the counter balancer. It only installs one way(on the balance shaft). Rotate the balancer until all three dots are in a row(facing each other). Once you find all three dots this should be pretty easy. If its not right it will vibrate bad. Theres a shop manual on ebay right now pretty cheap.

Chapy, when lining up the timing marks, you must make sure the piston is at TDC. I made this mistake on a lt250 and it would shake right out of your hands. You can make the fix by removing the clutch cover and clutch basket. Be aware there are some left handed nets holding the gears on. Good luck. Karl
