I am heading to Sand Lake for a weekend here VERY soon, and am a little worried about not having recieved my K&N w/outerwears yet from Alba. My airbox, thank goodness, is still stock, snorkel included. Should I worry, or just keep outta people's roost, or what? Any info would be great. This will be my first time in an actual "dune" type setting. My Z400 is bone stock other than skids, including tires. Ain't gonna get paddles for one weekend. Although, if there were dunes closer to home, I'd definitely be there more often.
thanks.

Dont worry to much about it i have been to the dunes a couple of times on my Z400 with the stock air cleaner setup just make sure that it is oiled properly and you will not have any problems. Another thing you can do which we have allways done is to smear a thin coat of vaseline on the inside of the air box this will catch the majority of sand that gets in before it gets to your air cleaner then when you get home just wipe it out with a rag works every time. HAVE FUN!

Personally, I wouldn't run a K&N in the sand without an outerwear... But that's just me.

If your outerwear doesn't show, you could always use your wife/girlfriends pantyhose stretched over the filter and fastened with a heavy rubberband. Trust me... this works.

Either that or run the stock filter.

Yep, go with the pantyhose...that's what we all used before outerwears were available. But, a K&N is fine in the sand, but not so good in the dust and silt unless you run an outerwears.

My filter's still stock, so looks like I'll just make sure they're clean and use that vaseline trick too. I just know I'll be hooked on the sand. Guess I'll just have to find some closer to home.

I have the stock filter with no lid on my Z and when I went to Pismo I had barely any sand in the vicinity of my air filter. The seat does a good job of protecting the filter housing.

vooduuchild,
When are you heading to SandLake, we will be there this weekend (08-01/08-04). There are dunes closer to you, Beverly, Moses Lake and Juniper Forest (when it open again). I just got back from a day trip to Beverly. They are a little dusty and are not as nice as the Oregon dunes but are fun short trips. Check out this web site for Dune Info.
Have fun

Sand is very addictive!!!
You can wash it out of your hair (after a week!!) But you'll never get it out of your blood!!
I know, I've been dune running since '74 & still can't get enough!!

When you get paddles (& you will!) Extreme haulers & Mohawks are the best setup!!
